LSU President Wade Rousse Sends Strong Message To Greg Sankey: "The Issue Is Moot"

LSU President Wade Rousse sent a letter to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on Wednesday seeking to "clear up the allegations against LSU" as tensions between the school and conference continue to cool.

In the letter obtained by the media, Rousse confirmed LSU does not plan to roster former professional football players Dae'Quan Wright or Zxavian Harris now that the Tigers' 105-man roster has been finalized and locked for the season.

Rousse said he informed Sankey on September 4 that LSU would not place Wright or Harris on the roster. LSU then filled its final two roster spots on September 8 with eligible student-athletes Gabriel Reliford and Aidan Anding.

"LSU complied with SEC rules. This issue is moot," Rousse wrote.

Rousse also addressed Thursday's special meeting of SEC presidents and chancellors, saying LSU has never threatened to interfere with the meeting and will not attempt to challenge, disrupt, cancel or postpone it.

"This issue is also moot," Rousse wrote.

The letter comes as the legal battle between LSU and the SEC appears to be de-escalating. A federal court hearing scheduled for Wednesday was continued and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Dear Commissioner Sankey:

Allow this letter to clear up the allegations against LSU.

On the afternoon of September 4, 2026, I called and provided you with advance notice that LSU would not place Dae'Quan Wright or Zxavian Harris on the football roster. This was confirmed when LSU submitted its roster later that evening. On September 8, 2026, LSU filled its two remaining roster spots with eligible student-athletes. The roster is now locked for the season. LSU complied with SEC rules. This issue is moot.

Also on September 8, 2026, I received notice of the special President's and Chancellor's meeting scheduled for tomorrow, September 10, 2026. At no point has LSU ever threatened to upset the meeting. But to be clear, LSU will not challenge, disrupt or seek to cancel or postpone this meeting. This issue is also moot.
