. I have an EV, and I love it. But I know better than to evacuate in it.
Use a lot of battery standing still?

Like I said, my gripe is the disingenuousness of EV people saying that limitations of range and charging times compared to ICE is really just a mental problem with consumers. If the EV people would admit that EV does some things better and ICE does some things better I would pipe down on that angle of discussion. But most of them can’t from what I have read, for whatever reason
The issue is that the one thing ICE does better, reliably and seamlessly drive extremely long distance, is not something the average person needs frequently, if ever. And of the people who do need to do it, this “problem” is easily solved by having a non-EV vehicle in the family as well.
If you’re a single car family who lives on the gulf coast, an EV might not be for you. For everyone else, the “but how will you evacuate from a hurricane once a decade?!?” argument does come off as a bit histrionic and… disingenuous.

I would buy one today if they had 500 mile range and/or gas/diesel charging capability.
Who drives 500 miles without stopping to stretch their legs?

They could get a Lucid. Don't those things have crazy mileage.

Can you drop those to a sport truck level like the old lightning or the Harley f-150s?

My 2019 Model S has 130k miles. Still has 300 mile battery range. Almost zero maintenance. Can't beat it. Bet I get the battery to 300k+ easy

Tesla Model S driver as of 2025. I wonder what took me so long. Kids are all out of the house. Wife drives an SUV with non-plug in mild hybrid ICE, and if we are not pulling the boat or something else, we are always traveling in the Model S. Tons of room and FSD on road trips is life changing.
Was just chatting with my FIL about how we just have to plan in the charging route and time, once you accept the trade off that there is not a charging station every few miles like there is a gas station, it's not a big deal.

Honestly, all reviews and the one in real life guy I talked to said the majority of the truck is just a straight up f150. So probably.

Turning off the A/C while standing still evacuating during hurricane season is a prime way to save precious battery power, as you sit in contraflow for hours. You're an utter dipshit. Because you're so dumb, I must have to remind you it's hot during hurricane season, and kids, pets and wives crumple.

Will be getting FSD Tesla once my beater dies.

If you don’t drive an American full size truck your a queer

When was the last time there was contraflow? Im sure the interstates were littered with EVs
Also, what keeps you from stopping and recharging? Time standing still isn't costing you much if you are moving less than 10 miles and hour.

Tesla needs a mid-size truck

People are going to stop owning vehicles, and a million FSD cars will be around for uber on steroids. Houses will start having more living space and less garage space
edit: not everybody and not every car. But I can see that for city folks that need to get aroudn town mostly, and maybe even long distance travel where you just jump into the next vehicle once the battery is depleted. People living out on big land, farm equipment etc will remain for a long time

locating charging ports
In rural areas thats got to be an annoying problem, but also its not expensive to put in a charger at home.
Charging ports around Knoxville are always used, but plenty open all the time as well.
I like the self-driving technology a lot and will definitely look into that when I finally want to give up my old 4runner.

I have a drawer full of iPhones with old batteries and outdated iOS where it’s was cheaper to buy a new one.
Not so easy or cost effective with an iCar.

I love chilling on the interstate in traffic. Letting the tesla do the driving. Million times safer, too
I let my diesel Silverado High Country do that too...

This is a huge part of it for me. Power outages, locating charging ports, grid issues, storms, etc. make me hesitant to get one.
I dont see owning an asset that depreciates to a negative number. The secondary market is going to become a big problem. What do you do with a 10-15 year old EV. Nobody is going to want to spend the money on a new battery set for a car this old. The market may get these cars through two battery life cycles but I dont see three. At that point the car is useless and will need to be disposed.
