Here's Everything Drew Rosenhaus Said About LSU And Dae'Quan Wright's Status

Well-known sports agent Drew Rosenhaus appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday and discussed his client, Dae'Quan Wright, who is now in limbo after LSU's decision to leave him off its 105-man roster.

Rosenhaus detailed what happened with LSU and the SEC, Wright's uncertain NFL status, and what could come next for the former Browns tight end.

Here's everything Rosenhaus had to say:

Rosenhaus on Wright’s situation:
“I've really just been dealing with this saga for Dae'Quan Wright. We thought he was going to go to LSU. He won a court case that said he could go play at LSU. Then the SEC gets involved. They threaten LSU. LSU says, ‘Dae'Quan, you can't play.’ So then we think he can go play in the NFL. Now the NFL's not sure that he can play after his dalliances with LSU.

“So I feel for Dae'Quan because he left the Cleveland Browns to go to LSU, and now he may not be able to play anywhere this year.”

On LSU, Lane Kiffin and pressure from the SEC:
“Dae'Quan's in limbo. Objectively, I can't blame LSU. Lane Kiffin, to his credit, fought hard to add Dae'Quan Wright. But the pressure from the SEC was unrelenting. They were threatening, and still are, expulsion. They filed a lawsuit against Lane Kiffin and LSU. I believe he was served with a lawsuit. There was just too much at stake for LSU.

“They really wanted this to happen. And Lane, I don't want to speak for him, but from what he shared with me, he feels terrible for Dae'Quan because he's the guy that, in my opinion, has done nothing wrong.

“He was told by the courts he could leave and play at LSU for a lot more money and then go back to the NFL after that. It seemed like a no-brainer. I was supportive. And then the SEC steps in and pulls the rug out from underneath him.”

On asking the NFL to allow Wright to return:
“So what's my job right now? I've reached out to the NFL and I've asked them if they could take a look at this. My dealings with the NFL, they've always been incredibly fair and just.

“Let's keep in mind that Dae'Quan never played in a game for LSU. He was never on their roster, nor did he ever sign a contract. So I'm hoping that the NFL will let him at least join a practice squad. Otherwise, he's stuck. No college will sign him. The NFL right now has not made a decision. So what does he do?

“He left the Browns. At a minimum, he would have been, I think, on their practice squad. And I can't fault the young man because he was just following advice from the courts and his rights. I do think that his lawyers are looking at legal action, potentially against the SEC.”

On why Wright never signed with LSU:
“I would say this: When he left the Browns, Pat, there was no doubt he'd be able to play at LSU. And we were very careful during the interim period, when LSU was getting heat from the SEC, not to sign with LSU because we did not want to lose his eligibility to go back to the NFL.

“So he did not sign with LSU while all this stuff was up in the air. But the league is still trying to decide whether or not they're going to let him try out for a team or join a team. So I'm currently waiting for that right now.

“We thought as of yesterday he would be able to, but it is up in the air. I'm just rooting for the young man. He just wants to play football.”
