Or we could do both?
Sure, but we currently don’t have enough forces in the region to physically take occupy the strait and Kharg island. We could move more there of course. But, in my opinion, taking and holding Kharg island expends assets and risks lives for what would be a redundant task if we took the strait. It also risks destroying the infrastructure on the island making it unusable on the off chance that we do get a positive regime change in Iran. But I think that’s a long shot at this point.
The way I see it the Strait of Hormuz is the key.

what does Iran do to create wealth for their country?
If we controlled the strait like I’m suggesting the Kharg island is completely irrelevant.
I don’t think we should bomb it. I don’t think we should do much to it all to be honest. I think we should take control of the strait with naval power and ground troops on some of the smaller islands in and near the strait.
It’s all in the OP.
It’s all in the OP.

We killed their leader. Why wouldn't they want revenge?
Well for starters they took our people hostage in 79. They’ve killed 10s of thousands of people all over the Middle East with their proxies. Not to mention they’re directly responsible for who knows how many Americans in Iraq.
Oh, and we’re a fricking superpower. We make the rules.

Probably a formal declaration of war from Congress. Nukes would realistically be on the table. If all our allies didn’t join in the fight they’d face serious economic sanctions at the very least and probably covert actions by the CIA and military to overthrow their governments.

you are not a smart man.
Why don’t you tell me what advantages physically taking Kharg over just bombing it or reinstating the blockade? And in particular what advantages physically taking Kharg has over taking the other islands in and near the Strait of Hormuz. I’m all ears.

Think of it as if you have this vault and it's got billions of dollars in it and it just magically continues to put billions of dollars in it no matter how much you take out. Now imagine you've been living off of this for almost fifty years. And then it's gone. That's the purpose.
You can do that without taking the island. You can just bomb the infrastructure on the island or reinstate the blockade, or both. Putting troops on Kharg is a waste of lives and political capital.
Our troops need to be on the islands in and around the strait. Our ships need to patrolling inside the strait 24/7.

Just set up a permanent military base on Kharg island. Take all the oil. Make the straight ours permanently. Negotiations off the table.
Taking Kharg wouldn’t do anything towards taking the strait.
Thank you for proving my point.

It’s clear that you don’t have a sense of humor or the ability to form an opinion and discuss the topic. Most posters just yelling “Dumbass!” Or “Alter!” or “Dumbass Alter.”
Now I know you’ll want to reply with, “Yeah well you are a dumbass alter so I’m not going to bother wasting my time actually making a response.”
But you and I and everyone else reading thread knows you simply don’t have the brainpower or knowledge of the situation to actually do so.

I’ll only come back when you tell us how you voted for Trump 3x, but……..
I voted for Trump 3X. Of he ran again today I’d vote for him again.
But…..he’s done a piss poor job of managing the conflict with Iran. I supported the war at the onset. I don’t support the cease fires or the negotiations. I do support the use of ground troops in limited roles like taking islands like Larak, Greater Tunb and maybe a few others. I recognize that it will mean casualties. Probably a lot of them. While I don’t like the idea of Americans dying anymore than the next guy I also realize that it’s the cost of winning a war.
And before you say, “Why don’t sign up and head over there tough guy?” I served as in infantryman in the Iraq war. I did many deployments to different parts of Africa as a military contractor. I am more aware than most the cost the young men and women will have to pay. My two sons are of military age and if they decide to enlist I will support them and also still support sending our military into harms way to defeat Iran.

Sorry but Tate was one of the better LSU presidents and was a huge supporter of LSU athletics, he let his athletic department do their jobs and gave them what they needed. Not sure what to you Tate did that was terrible for LSU. Can u elaborate?
What if I told you that LSU did other things besides play amateur sports?

Trump needs to work out some sort of financial arrangement that satisfies the IRGC. Since he wants to save face as much as possible, it won’t be as direct as a “toll”, but it will be a concession nonetheless. It’s either that or full-on ground invasion to overthrow the regime and nobody has an appetite for that. May this quagmire be the final lesson for future presidents to stop meddling in the Middle East.
There’s an option in the middle of these two. I started a thread on it.
I’m not masquerading as anything. Feel free to. Come back and debate when you have formed a coherent argument to my position in the OP and I’d be happy to discuss it further with you.

If we dropped a couple of bombs on that island, Iran would cease to exist as a functioning country
Why can’t some of you read past the thread title?

And here I thought you were in charge of US military strategy.
There are posts all over this board suggesting different tactics or strategies when it comes to the war in Iran. Are you accusing all of the people saying we should nuke Tehran, take out all the bridges, take Kharg Island, leave the war altogether or send in SOF guys to eliminate leaders of being in charge of military strategy?

Well welcome alter boi no matter what.
You could just read the thread

Your Boeing gravitas.
I didn’t plan on evoking any particular “gravitas.” The other poster made a moronic comment about my username meaning 8647. That’s just fricking retarded on its face.

islam is a cult that is the opposite, and enemy of Christianity. Iran is lead by the 12ers, which are the ultimate deathcult of Islam. They see this as a way of kicking the end times off.
That’s just not true. Shia Islam is not a death cult. And I say that as no fan of the Islamic regime in Iran and I would love to see regime change. If there is a death cult in Islam it’s the hardcore supporters of ISIS. Whom Iran absolutely hates. Hell, even Al Qaeda thinks ISIS is a bunch psychopaths.

No way 747 tard says attrition is irrelevant
Well one of the major reasons stated for taking the islands in the straits and having a heavy naval presence there is to attrit the enemy’s drone and missile capabilities. You could arguably get some attrition of those capabilities by taking Kharg but that doesn’t do anything about the strait.
