How is it not? He says he is thinking about moving for work, presumably to make more money, looks here for advice, provides no budget but qualifies that he doesn’t want to not like the people he lives around.

Oh and he also says public schools will play a factor. ALL of the schools will be better than wherever else he is coming from in Louisiana. The people that live on the Northshore have made it that way. Yet, he doesn’t provide the age of his kids which is the only way to give him practical advice.

So the only information he provided to make his decision is that he doesn’t want to not like the people he is around, not considering that he is the one that wants to move for a better opportunity for his family, and the people that already live there may not like him. Not sure how else to characterize that mentality but that if a douche.

Ok thank you. I’m on the south shore so don’t know about the private school scene over there except there doesn’t seem to be many. They were planning on Covington Elementary in a few years but people here say Covington schools are bad and it will likely only get worse now (to me) because of the influx. So I suggested they look into private.

My cousin lives in the Lee's Landing area east of Ponchatoula off of Hwy 22. He works daily at Tulane. In the Morning he takes the Causeway to work. In the evening he drives around the Lake thru Manchac and Ponchatoula home that is how crazy traffic is.

I wasn’t bragging at all. I was simply sharing my experience to help the guy who asked the question\. I have no idea what his budget or priorities are, so I explained why Madisonville made the most sense for me.

I’m divorced, single, and at this stage of my life I have no interest in being house poor. I’d much rather have a home I enjoy while continuing to travel, build my savings, and invest for retirement than buy the biggest house I can qualify for just to impress people I’ll never meet.

I have substantial savings, two well-funded retirement accounts, and no debt other than my mortgage. That’s the position I intentionally chose to be in. Most financial planners will tell you that financial success is measured by your net worth, savings, investments, and debt—not by the size of your house or what’s parked in your driveway. There’s a reason *The Millionaire Next Door* has been a bestselling personal finance book for decades.

The original poster asked for people’s experiences on the Northshore. I shared mine. The fact that you somehow turned that into a juvenile attempt at a status joke says a lot more about your mindset than it does about my post.

Regarding schools, the difference between the Mandeville area schools and the Cov public schools is not as great as it used to be. That said, in Mandeville your children will be in classes with more children whose parents are professionals / college educated (which can lead to better outcomes). In Covington, about 1/3 of the students will come from Black families that have not all emphasized education, about 1/3 will come from Folsom / Bush (although I do not believe they still arrive with a freshly shot buck on their truck's hood) and 1/3 of their parents (CHS graduates) are doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. The education is there if one desires it.

Regarding traffic my experience most recently is that east-west on Hwy 22 in Mandeville has been most unpleasant. The Madisonville bridge is the Madisonville bridge. Near Covington, traffic has improved remarkably since Hwy 190 was converted to a "super street" and the Collins Blvd bridge was completed.

In Covington proper, True OT Ballers live near the downtown between the two rivers … on the "Island." They try hard to never leave the island.

I've been told the mayor of Covington posts here. They say he's a pretty cool dude .

Covington High Fun Fact: The first Black person to ever play for LSU was Mike Williams, CHS star, LSU and San Diego Chargers star. Mike still lives near downtown Covington.

Fun Fact II: Pistol Pete Maravich lived in Covington up until his death. His wife, Jackie, still does.

Northshore insular and pretentious types have disproportionate $$$$ sensibility. That is my observation. The ones with a shallow layer before one finds thick layer of family dysfunction — are sprinkled all over the NS.

As well as any other place in the U.S. and world. Peacock primming is a bit thicker within that social nucleus. Always. Especially the insular ones.

Congrats! We still love BR, but we may be moving that direction as well in the next few years. Covington feels the most cohesive and their downtown area is far and away the best. But Mandeville has the lakefront and better schools and slightly quicker to hop over the causeway.
