Thank you, finally a response as to why Covington schools are considered bad. They will visit the public elementary, too.

Yes and no. Covington does have a larger black population but you won't encounter a group of young black people out for a drink or walking the streets of downtown. You will encounter them working at the courthouse, city hall, banks, the hospital, and retail, but they are relatively scarce at restaurants, or a festival or final Friday on Columbia Street. The few I have encountered regularly doing so are professionals and middle to upper middle class black folk. The hood seems to stay in the hood in Covington for the most part. Like my nephew once said when visiting from out of state for the holidays while we were driving through New Covington, "this is the nicest hood I have ever seen." You even rarely encounter rednecks in downtown Covington either...the intimidation factor really is at play on the lower income/cultural scale. Not saying it's right or wrong, but just how it is.

Covington seems nice to me. More quaint than Mandeville. Have been downtown and out to eat there and zero issues. Seems the schools would be ok too, it was odd always reading “no” to Covington schools. Someone answered why it’s been said. Silly, as long as the academics are good and no trouble.

It is the best all around "Mayberry" feel of all the northshore inside the city limits aka "Old Covington".. It's the ONLY place considered where you can go the bank, hospital, grocery store, and restaurant without having to cross or use 190 or a highway. Tyler St. and 21st are a technicality. Old Mandeville aka from Monroe St to the Lakefront is a good second choice IMO with Lewisburg also being a great neighborhood.
