Interstate widening is driven by states i.e. State DOTD funding matched by the Feds.

North Carolina has never stopped widening and improving their interstates. They have a very high gasoline tax dedicated for roads.

South Carolina has a very low gasoline tax. Their interstates are falling apart.

Mississippi used Gulf Coast casino money to widen their interstates.

LA has long been and continues to be far behind on funding interstate projects.

Met with Scalise this morning

I and few mayors had a meeting with Congressman Scalise this morning. We discussed FEMA, DOGE freezing FEMA funds, potable water infrastructure, sewer infrastructure among other things.

When it came to my turn I thanked him for his help with funding the US Hwy 190 widening in my area, explained Cured-in-Place-Plastic lining of terracotta sewer lines (which he was either very interested in or feigned interest) and how my city received $4.5M from the American Rescue Plan Act (Biden, Covid response), St. Tammany received $50M and New Orleans received $300M … the printing of which contributed largely to the devaluation of the dollar.

I ended on how upset I am about one thing in particular. I am having trouble getting over Tuesday night: Northwestern beating LSU in baseball … he finished my statement by exclaiming "By the Ten Run Rule!" He then spoke for the next dozen minutes knowledgeably about NIL baseball and football. He is very bullish on Nuss and on our Tigers this Fall.

:geauxtigers:
The mayor should do something about this!

… Oh, wait. Never mind.

re: How to stop solicitors

Posted by Fat Man on 4/3/25 at 3:59 pm
the City of Covington has an ordinance that says before you solicit door to door you have to obtain an ID badge … said badge is available at the Police Station.

Most solicitors do not want to go to the police station.

I answer the door and ask for their city issued ID. They show me their company issued one. I explain no, city has an ordinance for a city issued one. No problem, we have a # I (any resident) can text to a police officer on duty. "He can be here in just a few minutes … OR you can tell your supervisor that, to avoid getting arrested, you need to register at the PD. "

I do this in a nice way … you know, just a guy try to help you out  .

Ordinance also limits what hours solicitors can solicit.

And, the law does not apply to religious solicitors.

I was not aware of this.

I do know you can't buy Sudafed (pseudephedrine) at any store without going to the Pharmacy.

If you're buying over the counter i.e. off the shelf it's not Sudafed. It's phenylephrine which is not nearly as effective.
First, tell them months and months away from Christmas. Right after Easter is a good time.

How could there be an Easter bunny? Rabbits do not have opposable thumbs. (Yes, I really used that).

Santa Claus per se is not real but he (and the giving of gifts) embody the Spirit of Christmas. Emphasize that the Spirit is really what is important and that has not changed.

He lived in Covington until he was about 12, then they moved to Mandeville.

When he was pulled from school to help with the escaped monkeys from the Primate Center he was at William Pitcher Jr. High in Covington.

A couple of years ago he came to Covington working on short film bit. I played the part of the City Leader defending the Primate Center. Nothing ever came of it.

On a recent podcast he mentioned "Coach Steve" picking him for basketball practice. It was Covington Rec District.

He then moved to Mandeville where he graduated from HS. David Duke did reside in Beau Rivage (Mandeville) for a very long time.

Theo VonKurnatowski was voted "Most Humorous" person in his class at WPJH.

bought the voter rolls

In LA, it's the secretary of State. Pick whatever city or parish you'd like to buy … age, gender, party, which elections they voted in (not how they voted).

That's how campaigns target mailings (or going door to door). You only target chronic voters skipping those who are registered but don't vote.

City of Covington voter roll … $25.00.

Put another way, it's public information.

Why are these retards so obsessed with eggs? I've heard more about eggs in the last 5 days

Because the price of eggs is about to go up higher and stay high … likely due to bird flu and maybe the loss of some chicken farms to fires over the past couple of years.

Media will be able to keep parroting price of eggs is Trump's fault when it's not - or that he promised to fix it and didn't.

I have a relative that is frightened beyond belief for her son. To me I find her concern irrational … but then I see your post.

Who should the lgbtq community be afraid of?

I call this the Hoover Effect. J. Edgar Hoover, who had deep roots in the spy community of WWII, started the FBI. He was well renown for having a file on every elected official, Hollywood celeb, journalist and activist. This did not end upon his death.

Regarding a couple of aforementioned podcasts Johnson stated he was recently taken to a secret vault and shown files which changed his mind on FISA warrants. Of note: He didn't say the files were about FISA warrants. One could reasonably speculate they were actually his files.

Each time an elected official, a supreme court judge or a journalist behaves in a way that appears contrary to their value system to the benefit of the Uni-Party … think J. Edgar Hoover.

In Trump's case nothing they had on him stuck … so Hillary had to actually create the Steele Dossier and the Intel community ran with it (knowing all along it was false).

I'd like to see him spend the summer in 7 on 7 drills covering our wide receivers … improved coverage skills would significantly improve his NFL stock (and be good for the Tigers).

Hey, Score one for the Boomers. We just sit around and watch Fox News all day with the volume pumped up.

Old dude had that face-image burned in his mind. Boy was lucky Boomer didn't go mop handle on him.

That swishing sound you heard was hyperbole with a hint of facetiousness passing over your head.

Vienna …. Paris …. Covington.

To Elaborate: Centuries of history (OK, just 2), Great cuisines (USA Today named CovLA # 5 Best Food Small town in America) and over 100 free live music acts per year.

And after dinner or catching some live music you return to your car … and it's still there with all its windows.

Vienna …. Paris …. Covington - Not necessarily in that order (swish)
