(and gangbangers in Covington's case)

That was true a few years ago. A pay increase for PD officers led to a fully staffed department which has blanketed the neighborhood for the past 3 years .. took over 200 guns (and a whole lot of drugs) off the streets and the took the bad guys that had them. What few bad guys that were left fled to Abita Sub and Bogalusa.

Code Enforcement demolished most of the blighted homes.

Faith Based W30s Redemption Company has built 75 new affordable homes (with resident buying the house for ownership).

Public Works cleared and cleaned the road shoulders.

A golf cart ride or walk through the neighborhood today is 180 degrees from what it was in 2020.

— Upfund the police and let them do their job.

Thank you. I'll take that as a personal compliment.

Most of the traffic snarls are actually outside of the city limits (the town is actually small). 12,000 residents but the Cov Post Office serves 60,000 … meaning almost 50,000 people and businesses have Covington addresses that are not actually in the City of Covington. For instance I-12 is not in Covington nor Hwy 190 or Hwy 21 that lead to Covington, but they do have Covington addresses.

Per DOTD the bridge should be finished in the next couple of weeks.

Re: Bear's … best roast beef poboy in S. LA, thus the best in LA, thereby arguably making it the best in world. USA Today named CovLA #5 best small town dining in America. 24 restaurants within 5 block radius of downtown all locally owned (usually with an owner in the kitchen). No franchises or chains in that #.

And if you can't get there in your golf cart you probably don't want to go.
I really hate being the spelling a-hole here but it's alluded, not eluded. The difference actually affects the meaning.

Covington has a super-cool mayor. His e-mails keep you up to date on events around town as well as infrastructure / budget type stuff. Sign up on the city website, mayor's page.

In front of the groceries / drug stores / city hall and at parks is a bi-monthly newsletter. Page 3 gives events - Over 100 free, live music acts per year.

Also, within in a radius of 5 blocks of the Trailhead there are 24 restaurants (no chains or franchises counted). Locally owned, in most the owners are on premise and / or in the kitchen. Cov was chosen #5 best restaurant in America by USA Today (fwiw).

IIRC, the mayor also posts on Tiger Droppings  .

Also used at all times should be "failed" as in "failed policy of ACA" or Failed Obamacare.

The plan we have now has failed … but it's not the Republican's plan, it's the Dem's plan.

Caveat: The Repubs should put forth a plan.
Some media reports a split in the Dem party and infighting. A more accurate portrayal is the Far Left will replace most of the 8 who voted to end the shutdown with "leaders who will fight no matter what." Replacing moderate Dems with more Socialist-Dems in Blue States will not be hard.

Moderate Dems are on their way out. The 20 -35 year olds with debt, little chance to purchase a home, a useless college degree and unaffordable healthcare cost under the Affordable Care Act will be energized by the new Left.

The Republican Senate should eliminate the filibuster now (while there is no specific bill on the agenda). Then, vote in the policies they want before Congress leans even more left.

Or, you can wait for the Far Left to have 41 solid votes … or more.
# of murders / total population of Chicago = no problem.

# of murders / population of affected area (south side) = serious problem.

They're watering down the numbers.

I tried to elicit the data for the 2nd equation from Google. The inter webs wouldn't answer my questions.
To say the same thing but only differently: Three down lineman w two linebackers (3-2) is the formula for slowing down QBs that can hurt you with their legs. Make them beat you with the pass while under duress.

All you need is Perkins, Weeks(s) and 3 or 4 shutdown corners  .

Maybe.

I'm sure there's some kind of catch, though.

Do you know by chance what year Toyota stopped with the "bulletproof engines?" I have a 2012 Tacoma with a 6-cylinder (only 82,000 miles).

I had (and still have) all the volume books dating back to the mid 1980s. Incredible teaching opportunities for my 4 sons from age 6 - early 20s. To get the jokes you need to know multiple sciences, history and culture. Every couple of years they "got" a joke they hadn't got before.

Today all 4 are happily married with children employed in the field of their choice. Thanks be to Gary Larson  .

Timing is an important element in politics, negotiations and gamesmanship. I understand I'm just spit balling here but what if some of the issues Trump has failed to address in the first six months he does address after the BBB or after the mid-term elections.

Here's a thought: What if blew the whole top off of Epstein during the final six months of his term? Resigns? The whole system implodes and JDV becomes president.

He does use chaos to his advantage.

Pass. Children and hipster tourists.

Pudge's FTW.

Children? Yes. Young families frequent the place during the day / early evening. Nice place to let the kids run around not bothering anyone and adults can enjoy a beverage(s). Later evening the crowd gets younger and rowdy. They now have to employ a police detail on weekend nights.

Hipster tourists? in Covington? I don't think so.

Pudge - was my first boss. Snowball stand on Jefferson Ave. And if you don't know Pudge … well then you're probably not welcome at the Pub  .

The PBY Catalina was the original stealth bomber.

The hull was built in downtown Covington (now Dependable Glass). Pulleys from the factor are still on the ceiling.

The hulls were loaded on a train on Gibson Street (still downtown) and shipped to New Orleans where the plane was assembled..
