Just looking for some sort of excuse after their model "got loose" and hacked another AI company. Obviously OpenAI isnt responsible, the singularity is here.

So, are computer part prices coming down or going up? I've been limping my pc along in hopes of a decrease in the next year or two.

Exactly what Altman's doing.

Pet peeve but everyone (not a shot at you just the general Twitter and media masses) seems to think Elon (and others) just have their entire net worth sitting in a bank account, with no real concept of how the "wealth" works or functions.

Converting all of Elon or Gates or Bezos or Zuckerbergs wealth into liquid cash would require a process that would significantly devalue that wealth in the process, I doubt any of them could actually realize even 10% of their "book wealth" if they wanted to.

I know this is because most of the people posting on SM have no idea about stocks etc, and the media who could actually educate them on this have no incentive to do so but damn it bothers me.

A couple of thoughts on this. Any one that takes Sam Altman, Dario Armodei, hell even Elon or any of these AI CEO's on their word with AI is being naive. OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Meta, Grok, etc all remain unprofitable as of now and are being funded by private investments. Their job is to keep those investments coming in until AI becomes profitable (OpenAI previously reported that they would be profitable by 2030, no idea whether that's still the case or not) so they have to keep the hype going. How do you do that? Making statements that no one can necessarily dissprove that make it seem as though you are seconds away from discovering the next best thing, essentially trying to convince investors to hop in now before they get left behind.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, i find it very funny how hard AI is being shoved down our throats and how much we are told that we need to love and embrace it as if its sole purpose isn't to replace us. If mass replacement of workers takes place as it has already started to, wealth will not just go away like Elon swears, instead it will be consolidated at the top even more while we normies beg for the scraps. They continue to say "AI will replace jobs but it will also create new jobs" yet no one can seem to pinpoint exactly what those "new jobs" are for 80% of the workers being replaced and in reality those "new jobs" will just be replaced with AI anyways.

tldr: they're pissing on head and telling us its raining and the mass public is happy to play along

money hasn't matter to these people in a very long time. Sure it is what they measure their dick with, but they are so far removed from the day to day worry of money that i cannot trust their concept AI utopia

Bingo. All of these groundbreaking releases are 80% or more marketing/hype to keep the liquidity flowing in. They've already shown that once you bill for actual usage, the music stops real fast.

every few weeks there is a doomer AI post on twitter or whereever that gets spread around that is thinly vailed propaganda

the tell is that there is always a line ~"the free models are ok but the $59.99 a month model is on super drive"

Sam Blackman-Fried waves hello…

From prison!

With regret (but not remorse). Those spectrum geniuses are wired more like machines than humans. Beware of wild hair.

The idea that these mega-wealthy and powerful individuals will simply give up their money and elevate everyone’s status is laughable.

Ai makes so many mistakes its not even funny and I love AI and use the shite out of it

it will not replace white collar work, someone that understands how to use AI to leverage their knowledge and skills to become 500% more efficient will though.

as far as some of the claims about replacing things like engineering....lmk when there is intrinsically safe robots that can crawl under and over things to scan them and immediately identify the issue and repair.

lmk when AI can actually put together a drawing package without there being 100 mistakes.

even more laughable right now when it comes to blue collar work.

but lets say there are suddenly robots that can crawl in the crawl space of your house, identify the issue with your plumbing and fix it right then and there

when there is a robot that can do that accurately even 75% of the time...i will worry

but i still do not understand how this will make money useless

who is building the robots? what is their return?

TBF, I see drawing packages everyday that are prepared by professionals and they have more than 100 mistakes.

Elon has made some wild claims about the future utopia under AI. "Everyone will have a penthouse apartment!!!" Really? Everyone?

I agree with your post until the last part of your final sentence.

The general public seems much more cautious about this than I expected (and much more pessimistic than Altman, Elon, etc expected).

Also everything in OP’s post is just Altman-ese for “we are once again nearly out of money.”

Folks are comparing this to the Terminator and I get that but what it reminds me of is a short story set in the Star Trek TOS universe called The Sleeping God.

The Nagha was a child.

She was all but omniscient and omnipotent, of immense size and gigantic capabilities. But she was only a child - a big humorless child. ...race of intelligent beings that constructed the original miniature cell of the Nagha...the computer complex that would one day, many millions of years later, think of conquering another Universe.

I doubt it gets to that point, let's hope not anyway

I could see the white collar work it will be replacing is stuff like the big 4 accounting firms do with new grads.

They hire a bunch of new grads to grunt out tax season, everything they do has to get approved from someone above anyway. I could see them scaling down those hires year over year if AI is useful

Prosperity for whom? It won’t be for the majority of this, or any other, country’s population.

Resources (money, food, things) is what motivates people and society. That utopia that is always out of reach better become in reach and in effect rather quickly if they think money won’t matter.

And, as always, the goal is to trap and enslave us with convenience.
