Whatever "source" youre listening to is getting their info from mascona who has been carrying mcmahons water for the last few years. From what I have gathered they are friends. But at first mascona insisted he was a good coach, he was just in a terrible spot bc of wade. Then he insisted the team was terrible because they didnt have any NIL. Then he ran with the narrative that mcmahon is a good coach, just unlucky. Now hes pushing that lsu doesn't have the money to fire him. I think mascona just needs to be prepared to lose his buddy at the end of the season because its happening no matter what shite he tries to push out there
I am going to go with Mcmahon from Wade. Not necessarily from a player perspective but from a fan support perspective. Mcmahon was taking over for a successful coach that was loved by the fan base and who the fans felt was wrongly ousted. Mcmahon hasn't done himself any favors with the abomination he has put on the court, but he was kind of like the step dad after the divorce that the kids don't really like. But now the fans are begging for any life at all from the head coach or the program, so the next guy if he shows even the slightest bit of fire or enthusiam and success on the court, our fan base will be in a frenzy for him

Just wanted to drop in here and say that I was interested to see how bad Mcmahon has been historically in the SEC. From what I found, out of all coaches since the 1940s that have coached for an SEC school 4 or more years, Mcmahon has the second worst SEC winning %. Currently the only one with a worse record was Tom Crean at UGA. If Mcmahon doesn't win another game, they will be tied

So yeah, he's THAT bad
So sloppy to start. We seem extremely rattled by their on ball pressure

Yes, the new font sucks. Am I the only person who has ever noticed this?

I honestly can't say I ever noticed it. I mean I get what they were going for with matching the geaux font to the end zone logos. I like the old numbers better but I personally don't think its that bad. Definitely not bad enough for it to bother me in the slightest
Sorry maybe I'm a little slow. We talking about the font of the numbers?

I think the real holdup at the moment is from the developer holding out until they get clarification on the sales tax issue.

I agree. Which I think is ridiculous because it comes down to a frivalous lawsuit claiming that voters within LSU's campus did not get to vote on the tax. I have yet to wrap my head around why individuals are able to register to vote with LSU as their permanent residence. If people want to bitch about something with this project, bitch about the fact that this litigious state is filled with grifters who jump on any opportunity to get a payday and their name in a news headline at the cost of holding up projects that can actually better the community. Looking at you Darrel Glasper Sr
I believe future phases do end up developing the rest of the golf course which ends up butting right up against the Freds property, but all new development like this is going to do is encourage private developers to come in and buy up the shitty apartments in Tigerland and redevelop into something better. Right now there is absolutely no incentive to do so and so slumlords have taken over the area
This board never ceases to amaze me. We have a developer who is willing to come in an put up the funds to develop a new arena and entertainment district and lease it to LSU. That same developer is a partner with Ticketmaster and thus can just about gurantee entertainment bookings for the said arena. That same developer has also already developed a similar arena for another SEC school (UT) and just announced a partnership with another (Vandy). And yet in one thread we have:

- Complaints that LSU and the state should just spend $75+ million redoing the PMAC (which still wouldnt be able to accomodate conerts)
- People suggesting we redo the cow palace and play there (which hasn't been used for anything outside of livestock shows since probably the 80s and would cost into the hundred millions to just get it up to code to host any event)
- People complaining that the new district will be "just another Perkins Rowe" as if a dilapidated golf course is better
- People essentially complaining that its still Baton Rouge and thus will have riff raff (LSU isn't picking up and moving to St. George or Ascension Parish anytime soon)
- Arguments that BR still wouldn't get concerts (which I believe to be false) and that its a waste of money (but again, its not LSU or the state's money)

People bitch about literally anything under the sun

So basically a Perkins Rowe

Yuck

Maybe I'm missing something but what's so bad about Perkins Rowe? Going grab dinner and a movie there makes for a great night imo. Also, last I checked, Perkins Rowe doesn't have a 15,000 person entertainment venue. So no, not like perkins rowe
Its not just capacity. The Cajundome is cleaner, has been upgraded, has updated audio/visual tech, etc.
Legitimate question, if that is the case, would you be in favor of LSU spending around $90 million to update the PMAC if it meant the school and state had to come up with the money? Because that would most likely be the case if they just did a renovation
Also that fact that you had to use AI to come up with why the Cajundome is objectively a better venue than the river center gives me the idea that you haven't actually been to an event at either one, because if you had its blatantly clear
The seating is proposed to be 15,000 for concerts. And again, see my post about OVG and Ticketmasters partnership.
Because the Cajundome is better fit to hosts concerts than the shitty River center. Is LSU and BR just supposed to say "well shucks, lafayette and NOLA got us beat. Guess we might as well just give up" or actually develop something that would put them as a more attractive venue. Oak View Group are close partners with Ticketmaster, so you're crazy if you think OVG is just throwing money at a venue that they don't have gurantees from Ticketmaster that they will have events to sell.

Also the tax is only being added to the EDD itself, not to the state so not sure what you're issue is there

This has been brought up every time a post is made about this new arena. Where is the study or info showing that major concerts will come to Baton Rouge? A major performer has the Smoothie King or Superdome to use in New Orleans, they aren't coming to Baton Rouge. Lets say they want to come to Baton Rouge, they can just play in Tiger Stadium to 106,000.

Lafayette draws bigger performers to the Cajundome than BR pulls. There is no reason for that to be the case when there's a student population of 40,000 ready to go to concerts and another 250,000+ in the capitol region

Also the cost of hosting a concert is astronomical and there are very few artists who would pull in a large enough crowd to justify the cost of hosting it there. Plus you run the risk of rain/weather issues in Tiger Stadium which most artists aren't willing to take that risk

when in reality you can do a complete makeover for the PMAC for $50-70mil easily.

Renovating the PMAC is not getting done for less than $70 million. The Mccamish Pavilion (which is probably the closest thing to compare the PMAC to pre-renovation and something similar to what LSU wants out of an athletic arena) costed $50 million to complete in 2011. In today's construction dollars that would be around $90 million

I’m only worried about LSU basketball. If you want to increase our home court advantage building a big event center is not the way to go about that.

To be fair, LSU has already said that the arena would have adjustable seat capacity with panels to cover the upper deck which would direct noise to the court and create more intimate settings for basketball. The layout would also hopefully allow for fans, particularly the students, to be closer to the court since it wouldn't be the awful circular shape

Still doesn’t mean it will be anywhere near the same facilities like Moody.

The Oak View Group is literally the developer who did the Moody Center.

I will also say that most of what is being done right now (establishing an EDD and tax structure, zoning, etc) is being done so that once a formal deal is in place with Oak View Group, construction can move quickly. A formal deal with Oak View Group and UT was announced in 2018, construction began at hte end of 2019, and the arena was opened in mid-2022. I know its fun to shite on louisiana and LSU when it comes to development, but even the moody center took 4 years and that was with a consistent athletic director and university president. LSU has had significant turnover and OVG is also getting over their own turnover and legal battles before an official deal was even in place. Using the moody center timeline, I would guess that it'll be constructed around 2031
I think the people that complain about this project are looking at it from solely an LSU athletics perspective. The arena is a small part of a much larger development project that will include restaurants, hotels, academic and research facilities, shops, offices, and other things. This development isn't just meant to replace the PMAC, it is essentially meant to replace downtown BR as the entertainment center of Baton Rouge Thats why getting EBR on board was so important.
In the interview Verge did with Jacques that other day Jacques asked him about it. Verge definitely treaded lightly with the question but his answer was pretty much that he hasn't really had time to fully get caught up on where things are with it since his main focus when he took the AD job was getting kiffin. He also mentioned that the turnover that the Oak View Group has had as well(new CEO as the last one was federally indicted) kind of led to things stopping for a few months. But he finished by saying that now that some of the more pressing things have gotten taken care of that this will be moved back up the priority list. And I actually do believe that Verge is going to push getting this thing across the finish line pretty hard as it would be a huge feather in his cap
