We spent a ton of money to end up in the Texas Bowl.

That’s the point.

The DBs panned out. No qualms there.

Otherwise his roster sucked and we had even more holes the year before.

This current season: we had MASSIVE OL holes. The DL production was mediocre from the transfers. We let Xavier Atkins go. TE and WR were HUGE unbelievable misses with MASSIVE wasted dollars.

And then to top it all off the dude didn’t even know that AJ Haulcy was suspended to start the season. That is literally his job to know that.

dude you are clueless on what austin actually did

you think he was the talent evaluator :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

i am perfectly fine with LK letting them go and them going to OM, we will be more than fine. but its hilarious you have zero clue what AT actually did.

We’re generally a camera on firm, but our meetings aren’t some one presenting and people listening. They’re going back and forth about deliverables and what needs to be done. I find it helps people not talk over each other.

Office of firm wide meeting are obviously different and cameras off because it’s one person talking.

For clients, I always join at first with camera off and just do whatever they do

yea there are times when you have them on. but for normal everyday meetings, we want someone sharing a screen so you can see drawings etc so you dont need the cameras on.

if you are having dialogue yea...it helps but we have gone back to most of them being in person anyways.

The folks that got laid off are incapable of applying for jobs themselves?

I’m genuinely curious here. Other layoffs happen, frick it. Operators laid off, let’s coddle them and find jobs for them lol.

It’s the reasons most are at the plants in the first place I suppose. Lack of work ethic.

are you fricking retarded?

and what in the frick are you talking about? did anyone say they were incapable of applying for jobs? why the hell would you think they have a lack of work ethic?

you understand that these are well paying 6 figure jobs right plus great benefits? you understand that for everyone of these operator jobs you are competing with a couple hundred people? do you think these people get them by not having work ethic? not to mention now a days, no matter the position you are usually brought in as a contractor representing westlake and then after 6 months to a year you get hired

essentially its a year long job interview now

and layoffs do happen and I feel bad for them when its happening, especially around the holidays

anyways most will get a severence and heard it was more than 50 let go that were union so that would be operators/maintenance at north and south plants as petro is non union.

as someone else mentioned this will end up affecting alot more than just the the roughly; ~200 direct in the LC area. going affect a lot of contractors too.

If the Chlorine unit is shut down, will that trickle down to Biolab or did Bio lab not rebuild?

they will still get it from Plant C in Westlake South, which is the most profitable Diaphragm plant and the newest or they will get it from the membrane unit at westlake south.

Biolab did rebuild

ok, just going off what i was told, unfamiliar with their process. but that was told to me by someone in that plant now.

I’ve let my teams know that it’s inexcusable to not have your camera on when it’s an interactive meeting. Conferences, training, etc…fine to leave it off.

why?

do you understand how fricking stupid that sounds? I only have a camera on the laptop but why do you need to see someones face to have a meeting?

if its an important meeting, you will be sharing a screen...why do you need people on camera?

I hate when people have the camera on. Now if you are doing a presentation with the board...thats different. I used to have them and yea...thats the expectation

but you are not on any board. You are middle management at best, more than likely low level management.

They are losing a lot of operators in other units to the LNG plants so hopefully that operators in plants being shut down will get moved to another unit.
Westlake in years past have been good about that.

thats what I expect but not sure they will be able to take care of everyone this time. I would imagine most in Louisiana will.

Is that the one that blew up after Laura and spiked Chlorine prices for pool owners?

no that was Biolab. they took chlorine from Westlake and processed it to make tablets and pool chemicals.

Trade war got them?

Na this has been coming

at least with the VCM and diaphragm units. That VCM plant was the least profitable of the fleet due to older tech. It was sold to Georgia Gulf by Vista in 99 before Condea bought the rest of the facility. Always been a headache to run with very tight margins.

Same with the diaphragm unit in Plant A at south plant. Plant A is the original magnessium plant built for the war effort and then converted to chlorine/Caustic later. Would cost hundreds of millions to convert it over to the new membrane technology. Membrane caustic is much more in demand because its way more pure, so the demand for diaphragm caustic already was low and the facility was just requiring more and more maintenance just to keep it up and running.

Styrene unit has been in trouble for a while, they have been down to 1 customer for like 5 years and has been running batches from what i understand. So only a matter of time that they said screw it

overall the chemical market is very very tight though. Would look for lots of consolidation and closing of facilities over the next year or two.

overall global ecomony is just not good and these are global businesses.

Expected to have roughly 300 employees laid off. I would expect most actual Westlake employees to be reassigned where possible and take the place of Contractors working as representatives of Westlake. But there will be layoffs for sure.

Sounds like they are getting severance packages though but really shitty to do it right before Christmas like that.

i thought you were rich....why are you worried about something as simple as insurance coverage?

Not sure why hourly pay is looked down upon so much?

Just like a salary its the rate that matters. Tons of hourly roles that come with full benefits, PTO etc.

i didnt mean it as looking down on it

in the end we are all paid hourly, point was I dont have to punch a clock

in general I work roughly 35 hours per week..I am paid a salary.....My company is perfectly fine with that...but if something comes up that makes me work 70 hours or even 84 hours that week...I would be expected to handle it. that is rare

i just meant it as...my company doesnt look at the clock or watch gate logs of its salary people.

Not that working by the hour is bad.

so many do it on here...they project insecurities on others. Its why you see so many people on here complaining about how other people spend their money.

but i dont get it with fareplay...in the past he has said he drives a Porsche and talked about how wealthy he is

if you are wealthy....why would you risk losing it all over an extra 1k a year or so?

not very good risk vs cost analysis thats for sure.
