Ran into a guy moving his second into Samford at Starbucks the other week. All I can think about is how much that costs. Beautiful campus, lovely spot in Bham but man...
What discord is this?
As someone who didn't expect to live past 30, and am now in my early 40s, I feel very behind . Been making up ground since my mid 30s but took time to fix old habits and attitudes from that time in my life.
This board has been very helpful reading even if I don't contribute much post wise.

My first purchase was at 0.44, I should've shoveled cash at this thing then :wah:
Camden Brown just put up 2 TDs on 3 catches for the Cowboys. Preseason and all that, but man our former coaches could really waste some talent/ability it seems.

Vestavia not being on the list is wild with Decatur, Dothan, and Montgomery on there.
Huntsville being as low as it is and Madison not even on the list are also crazy choices.

I think the biggest positive we have this season is creating continuity in a coaching change.
Offensively, importing the QB, the C, and the WRs from Golesh's system at SFla is a big win for having players who know the system already. They are talented enough to compete, especially if the defense can put in close to last year's performance.
Defensively we have scheme continuity with DJ, and kept some very important defensive pieces overall.
The negatives I foresee?
The rest of the Online. Like on some levels how can they be worse than years previous, but Auburn is nothing if not consistent in finding ways to dig deeper into disappointment these days. And it looks very cobbled together so far.
CB play. Our pass coverage (especially 3rd and long) has been consistently infuriating, and we lost some good talent in this position while the SEC as a whole seems to be stacking offensive talent.

Pet peeve but everyone (not a shot at you just the general Twitter and media masses) seems to think Elon (and others) just have their entire net worth sitting in a bank account, with no real concept of how the "wealth" works or functions.
Converting all of Elon or Gates or Bezos or Zuckerbergs wealth into liquid cash would require a process that would significantly devalue that wealth in the process, I doubt any of them could actually realize even 10% of their "book wealth" if they wanted to.
I know this is because most of the people posting on SM have no idea about stocks etc, and the media who could actually educate them on this have no incentive to do so but damn it bothers me.

Starting 2 teenagers is pretty crazy, deep talent pool for Spain.

What a strange take, guess we should can swimming as a sport because we as humans aren't as good at it as fish? Are we mad at golf because they use a stick to hit the ball instead of their hand?

Soccer Is All Middle
Soccer is all tension because at any moment a play could suddenly break out and the game goes from 0 to 100 mph as a pass finds a seam in the D. Just because the NFL fills all the standing around time with commercials, puff pieces, and slowmo replays doesn't mean that the 3 hour broadcast for a football game isn't mostly guys standing around on a field in between the next 5-10s burst of activity.
And I like football, I just also like soccer. Saying that one sport should be more like another sport to better appeal is asinine, following that logic path means you should only have 1 sport.

Gordon might be my favorite England player, just a dynamic goofy arse Brit hauling arse down the field.
In current sports like the NFL and NBA doing poorly gives you the benefit of better draft picks. With no threat of losing your place in the league there is a benefit to tanking once it is clear the season is over.
With promotion/relegation the hungry teams/owners advance up the pyramid towards the top, while the complacent ones get bounced down. There's a tremendous incentive to both reinvest the money made by the team, tv deals, merch, player sales etc into improving the team both by adding big name players to the roster (often from other leagues) and by developing your youth players to either become new faces of the team, or sold to other leagues to help fund the team's ambition.
So it creates a farm system that is sharpened over time, and relegation is such a threat (loss of tv revenue etc) that teams have an incentive to be competitive.

Right?! I still look back at those, playing 1 game Friday night, 2 Saturday games, and then a final on Sunday very fondly. I have no idea how I ever played that many minutes in midfield/winger those weekends, but I guess everyone else was arse dragging by the Saturday evening match too.
