shite on New Orleans for how poorly ran it is, but make no mistake about it, New Orleans is a huge contributor of LSU, on and off the field.
In an age when it takes less than 30 seconds to get answers to most general questions, you have people posting that Archie made less than one million dollars in his entire NFL career so he had to grift New Orleans and others believe it.

Archie WAS NOT a overrated QB,he was with the worst NFL team in the country.When Hank Stram finally brought in some talent AM showed what could have been.Whoever posted that Archie didn’t make a million dollars is wrong,he signed a contract in the 70s for 600,000 a year multi year which at the time was a big contract.Do your homework b4 you post BS.

People don’t realize this (mainly because they don’t publicize it), but Faulkner never taught at Ole Miss. He was the postmaster (i.e., the mailman) in Oxford.

I have seen his house. It is a beautiful mansion in the Garden District.

Archie is a smart guy and extremely personable. He was able to get onto a lot of business opportunities in NOLA during the 70s. NOLA in the 70s was a lot different than now. Lots of oil money floating around and lots of growth. He would get some preferential treatment from RE agents and other types like car dealerships. Staying in New Orleans and setting down roots was not a bad decision in the 70s. When he retired he had a lot of investments in the city. He did not just own a house in the Garden District. He had his fingers in a lot of ventures.

The Mississippi-New Orleans connection goes back 200 years. Especially during the golden age of cotton, because the controlling the river and flooding was in their mutual interest. Famous Mississippians like LeRoy Percy. He was deeply connected to the New Orleans social elite.

It’s more accurate to say that ole Miss is super pretentious for some reason and holds itself out to be some bastion of Southern grandeur despite all their students being dumb as rocks.
That combination of fun party school, low academic standards and decently appealing southern college town that isn’t an hour away definitely appeals to some kids in Nola, typically girls from the Deb scene.
