You're WAY off. Archie's last contract paid him $600,000 per year. As I recall it was a three year deal. I remember hearing him talk about how Bud Grant let him retire but still paid him his full $600,000 contract his last year.

Archie was from Drew right in the heart of the Delta, but Olivia was from Philadelphia which is in east central Mississippi nowhere close to the Delta. They come back often.

It is not a requirement to like LSU just because you live in Louisiana. Also times change. In the 1970s college sports were not nearly as popular and while LSU was always the most popular team in NOLA it was by plurality not majority. I’d dare say in Uptown more people either did not care about LSU or did not like them. And the only reason you care where his kids did or didn’t go to school is because they were good at football. No one cared where Cooper went.

Born and raised in a poor MS delta town. Decided to stay in the city where he became popular and his kids were growing up. All within a short trip home.
Not to mention he and Olivia went to the historical rival of LSU.
Not that complicated.

Also keep in mind that during the time of Peyton and Arch’s recruitment, lsu football was a disaster.

Correct. Historically, old money in the antebellum southern towns sent their kids to private, liberal arts schools. The new money that associates with old money added the state schools that were originally liberal arts programs (Alabama, Ole Miss, UGA, UT Austin, UNC)

I was wrong.....it was $700k/year fully guaranteed.
