I thought Ulysses was a challenging read.
I had an ambitious first year teacher assign that to me my senior year of high school. I could make out enough of the portion of the book that I actually got through to turn in a crappy term paper.
Took glancing shots at Finnegan's Wake and Portrait of the Artist later in life, and couldn't muster the effort.
That used to be a regular treat of mine, but for some reason I haven't thought of it in years.

It was nice to see how the Targs were viewed outside of the "great houses." Helps fill out the context as more than just Robert and the Starks standing up to the Mad King.

Perhaps having football coaches teach these subjects in high school was not a good idea.
This may be a pretty profound breakthrough that could explain a lot.

Please tell me more about this assignment.
I have a miniature print of that poster on the wall in my garage. Found it randomly on some streamer a couple years ago and loved it.
If anyone hasn't seen the Midnight Movies documentary, it's on Youtube free
LINK
Probably also on Tubi or one of the other free services.
quote:
The film chronicles the period between 1970 and 1977 in which six low-budget films shown at midnight transformed the way films are made and watched:[4] El Topo (1970), Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Harder They Come (1973), Pink Flamingos (1972), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), and Eraserhead (1977).[5]
Also portrayed in the film are the films Freaks (1932) and Reefer Madness (1936), which gained notoriety and a huge cult following thanks to midnight showings. Providing interviews are filmmakers George A. Romero, Alejandro Jodorowsky, John Waters, Perry Henzell, David Lynch, and Richard O'Brien, as well as film critics Roger Ebert, Jonathan Rosenbaum, and J. Hoberman and Ben Barenholtz.

But Prime costs money, right? Is Amazon Prime free now?
Surely you could have searched and found that it's on Tubi free w/ ads, and on the Roku channel.
re: Hendrie • Documentary now on Amazon Prime • Phil Hendrie: Radio Host
Posted by PowerTool on 2/22/26 at 11:17 pm to Blackfield
I nearly drove off the freeway laughing when I found his show syndicated on a Houston station. He gave it up briefly to do a sitcom and we never got it back when he returned to radio.
It was amazing how many people would call in to argue with his guests even though he always admitted it was him doing all the voices in the last part of the show when he took open lines. He released a video to show how how he picked up phones to switch characters and it was just insane how quickly he could switch voices and improvise.
One line I always remember was from his HOA character Bobbie Dooly talking about her youth in the 1960's, explaining to Phil that it was a different time, "it was the absolute heyday of George Lincoln Rockwell."

Never heard that one, even when my sister went there. Definitely remember the nickname for Tulane.

I'm only a few minutes into the first episode and wondering if there is any reason to watch this other than finding new assholes to get pissed off at.

I love throwing things people can actually use. Hammers, screwdrivers, canning jars...links of chain.
