re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
I posted that Nick Torina followed her relatively quickly after the UL scandal

Its a bit odd to do that. Usually Nick follows anyone related to LSU Softball

Keep a close eye out everyone

I stand corrected. Can we take both?

Nick follows over 1000 people... most have something to do with softball. Maybe curiosity like we all have about what is going on over in Laughayette than anything else.

Nothing to see here...

Did you see the scrimmage today? From what I heard it was upperclassmen vs the underclassmen

Yes you can.... lol

I didn't get here in time. I stopped in Baytown to watch our girls basketball team play on my way over. I promised them that I would stop and didn't want to break it.

Top 2022 prospect Alea Johnson and her family came in for an unofficial yesterday and LOVED it

Alea Johnson plays for the thunderbolts organization and has already been on visits to Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, and Tennessee

Some of these top prospects for 2022, LSU seems to be the favorite but the staff hasn't handed out many offers yet. She wants to wait a little bit.

Quick update:

Word around is LSU leads for 2021 Catcher Tori Hedgecock who is ranked #14 player in the country and is at the moment bein recruited by most SEC schools, including Florida and Tennessee

LSU and Tennessee seem to be the favorites at this point but word around the street is LSU seems to be the favorite at this point. She looks to commit sometime her freshman year, so I will keep an eye out

Boom! Another 8th grader considering LSU. LSU will need a bigger nursery to house all of these youngsters.

With all of the top 10 recruits committing to LSU, I wonder how Beth is affording them. One would assume that they would all want a minimum of 80% on their grant-in-aide since they are all the bomb according to TB357. Unfortunately, Beth only has 12 scholarships to go around every year. You figure that Hoover and Walljasper are on full rides. That leave 10 scholly's available. Since all of these out of state girls are paying out of state tuition, either they are 1. getting a schit load of academic money to supplement the grant-in-aide money that they are getting; 2. They or their parents are taking out a lot of student loans in order to play for the Tigers or 3. All of their parents are loaded and forking out $22K per year minimum for tuition, room, board and books is nothing. I will give this Beth her props. She is one hell of an used car salesman.

Ban? You post this every time. If it bothers you so much stop reading. Recruiting starts at this level now a days, the days of all juniors committing is essentially done. Tori is in hs as of now. This isn't that bad. Florida has a lady in 7th committed and were recruiting her while in 6th

In state players can benefit from TOPS and other such stuff

Many of these ladies also receive supplemental scholarships from other areas thats not from LSU Softball scholly's

I don't know about yall but its pretty damn exciting to start snatching up kids OU/Florida wants really really bad. Whatever the staff is doing as of now is kicking ass. LSU is very much in the mix for every elite prospect now and have now picked up kids who were considered locks for OU.

Reality is recruiting is now at a completely different level from which we have ever seen for LSU Softball

Not that we didn't have good classes before but the talent we now have coming in the future is at an OU type level.

If you look at talent of LSU compared to other teams in the CWS over the Torina tenure, we have had probably the least amount of talent top to bottom and we still can compete with everyone. Now, you add that talent, national title can be a more realistic probability in the future.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
TOPS only applies to Louisiana girls of which there aren't very many on the LSU roster. You would think academic money would cover some of this but if one looks at the 2016-2017 NFCA D1 All Academic Team list which list the top 150 programs academic wise, LSU does not even show up in the top 150 teams. The top SEC softball teams academic wise were - Bama (No. 3); South Carolina (No. 51); Tenn. (No. 84); Miss. State (No. 120); Georgia (No. 122); Tex. A & M (No. 127); Florida (No. 130 and Ole Miss (No. 134). Please keep making posts in regards to 8th grade commits. I enjoy reading them.

Definitely not true in the circle and probably not in the position player realm either. We have very talented players but LSU has not shown an ability to develop position players in the last few years and has not had a plan to develop depth. If we can ever change this it could be an even better story going forward.

I believe next year will be a real turning point for the program to see where we are. It will be only the second season we haven't had an All American in the circle since Beth arrived. The only other year without one we didn't host a regional. Having AA's in the circle is a distinct advantage that has been the driving factor in our recent success.

Don't take for granted what we have had on the mound. It has been nothing short of incredible.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
There is no denying we have had the countries best pitchers for years

Most teams have a specific specialty and here at LSU, its on the mound.

LSU will hurt losing two of the countries best pitchers next year, it would hurt any team

We do add Wickersham and Kilponen who are ridiculously talented. It will take time to work both in, and then we still Sunseri and Maribeth

We will take lumps early but I think pitching will be fine in the end. We had a lot of people worried before when hoover and Walljasper were just true freshman. It can be done.

As for position players and offensively, there is no doubt we need to continue to improve as well here. I am very optimistic we will be much improved on offense. Last year seemed very uncharacteristic for LSU offense as a whole. It was a major issues down the lineup. Dobson and Leftwich have altered the way the offense is run this fall. There seems to already be difference in our hitters. We did very well this fall at the plate.

One of the most impressive aspects for LSU this fall was defense. LSU looked like an elite team on defense. Fielding was fantastic and everyone seemed on point.

I am optimistic of a very improved LSU team at the plate come February, talent isn't an issue IMO

Doyle has looked like a different player. Multiple home runs this fall and hittin it extremely hard

Antoine has impressed me, her versatility is dangerous

Serrett looks good

The transfers will make an impact, I have zero doubt about it. Both can hit. They have done so off walljasper quite a bit in practice too

Sunseri is a dark horse at the plate, she truly can add a lot to our offense

Sanchez IMO has been the major surprise, she looks very healthy and looks like a different animal out there. She has had hits in every scrimmage all fall, on base at least 2 times as well. Many many RBI's on top of that. I am calling it now, Sanchez will have a major breakout year if this fall is any indication. She is for real.

My only true concern is Springfield, she has had many nice nights but consistency is only concern

I absolutely despise us recruiting 8th graders, but I think your comment here is over the top.

This is the real world of recruiting in 2017 and if we're going to continue to compete, then we have to do this. If we don't, someone else will and I applaud our staff for doing what it has to do to keep us at the top.

The current recruiting process hurts those players who are late bloomers. I have a senior night now who can easily play at the D-1 level, but when she was a sophomore, she didn't make the varsity. She has put in tons of work and plays for a really good travel ball team, but when I talk to coaches they say it's too late so I don't even bother D1. She is going to D2 and the school is paying her way and she's good with that even though her parents are disappointed.

She is definitely as good as my other 2 seniors who just signed with Notre Dame and A&M Corpus Christi.

This is in no way complaining about our staff at all... I'm in full support of what they are doing. Just showing an effect of the current recruiting process overall.
