Does anyone know what percentage of these taxes are BR? The rest of the parish? Could it be 50/50?

I think it’s about 60/40 in favor of BR. I think. I tried looking it up and made some rough estimates.
quote:

I tried and didn’t find anything. But you are all upset that BR is paying off their debt with your money; yet you have no idea if they are and how much it is.

I posted these details already, but I guess me trying to provide facts with long posts arent helpful here.
I guess it’s best to just make assumptions and opinion in short posts instead of quoting the facts while also providing links to those facts.

Went to buy some steaks at the grocery store last weekend and a pack of two ribeye that were 25 this time last year at this same grocery store are now 36 dollars. Insane.

Next time you want to fear monger grocery store prices by starting a stupid thread on it, do it using price per pound.

Every time a tax for those agencies are put on the ballot the renewal passes almost 2 to 1.

I would say it's not 2015 anymore. People are voting differently now.

quote:

Part of the reason that happens is they put the tax renewal proposals on an obscure date with nothing else on the ballot, including no political office contests, which means only those agencies friends, families, benefactors and employees vote in large numbers.

It's wishful thinking on your part to think otherwise

I would agree for the most part, but how's that any different than this election this weekend? If this doesn't pass, this theory doesn't hold water any more.

The DA had a parish wide tax proposal on May. 18% turnout and 60% NO

Good for you but your posts are so long that they usually exceed my attention span after the second paragraph. Read the room, bro...

 i am aware.

How can you be so stupid that you think even if THRIVE fails those agencies won't roll forward their millages so that your total taxes will go UP without any improvement in the DA's and Sheriff's funding, which are both parish offices.

First of all, voting no means that the renewals for the library, COA and Mosquito abatment don't continue, meaning another vote will have to pass in order for those entities to continue to get funding.
I don't know about you, but i seriously doubt a straight up renewal of the library or COA tax will pass unless they drastically reduce the millage.

Shall the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana (the "Parish"), be authorized to rededicate $52,400,000 to be used for Parish-wide general purposes, heretofore and hereafter received from the levy of an ad valorem tax (the "Tax") previously approved for public library purposes at an election held on October 24, 2015, and shall the Parish be further authorized to extend and rededicate the levy of said Tax at the rate of 11.1 mills on all property subject to taxation in the Parish for an additional 10 years, beginning with the year 2026, to and including the year 2035 ($67,432,500 is reasonably estimated to be collected from levying the Tax for an entire year), so that (a) proceeds heretofore and hereafter received from 8.30 mills of the Tax shall be administered by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Board of Control and used to maintain and operate the public library system of the Parish, including collections, software, furniture, and equipment, and acquiring land and constructing new library facilities, and (b) proceeds heretofore and hereafter received from 2.80 mills of the Tax shall be used for Parish-wide general purposes (after paying reasonable and necessary expenses of collecting and administering the Tax)?

Many of us do not want to "extend...the levy of said Tax at the rate of 11.1mills....for an additional 10 years"

Second, where does it say anything about this money being used for the DA and Sheriff's funding? We all pay a dedicated property tax for the sheriffs funding. If they need more, they need to ask the people for more, not the city/parish general fund. If we don't think they need more, then oh well. Maybe we don't want to up their funding so they can have cops making $200K+ a year by fudging overtime hours.

I've provided plenty of data with links on how this rededicated money is supposed to be used. Are you saying they aren't going to use this money where they say they are going to use it? or are you saying since they'll get this money to use on what they say, now they'll have excess funds in the city/parish budget to give to other city of BR entities? How convenient.

There should be no such thing as a City/Parish fund.
There should be a city of BR general fund, that is supported by sales tax in the city and property taxes from it's residents.
There should be a parish general fund that is supported by property taxes of all residents, and whatever other means of taxes they can collect parish wide.

The residents outside of the city of BR are tired of sharing our money with them and watching them misuse it. Thrive doesn't change that.

It is just something you have to time and tend to, with a rice cooker you can just let it go and not worry about it.

I don't know how the rest of you are cooking rice on the stove, but I've never "tended" to cooking rice on the stove. I quit using cheap rice cookers 15 or so years ago.

The "tending" to is waiting for the water to boil. For a small batch for the 4 of us, that takes like 2 minutes to get it to a boil. Turn the knob to lowest setting and i don't touch it again until we're ready to eat it.
Regardless if you use a rice cooker or the stove, you're measuring rice and water. you pressed a button on the rice cooker after that and was done with it. I turned a knob and was done with it. Does the rice cooker require less work, sure, but pretending like cooking on the stove requires all this attention is just silly. I'm not knocking using a rice cooker. My point in not having one is more that i don't want to store it b/c i'm limited on my space for large items like that.

Imidacloprid is very toxic to honeybees and other beneficial insects. The role, if any, of imidacloprid in Colony Collapse Disorder is not yet clear. Scientists have shown that plants grown in treated soil may have imidacloprid residues in their nectar and pollen at levels that are below those shown to cause effects on bees in laboratory experiments.

I hope its not fatal to bees. The two flowering trees i treated with it normally have 100's of bees on them in the spring.

I'll have to use it on my guava regardless. thanks for the info.

My 10x6 greenhouse maintained 45F with the small heater/thermostat, and still is this morning while its 34F outside right now.
They are a bit dangerous. Some of them go really fast. My 12 year old wiped out on his just the other day. I thought it was good for him to feel that pain of falling off a bike. Good scrap on his knee and complaining he broke his finger (he did not). I just smiled. He has ridden his regular bike many of times and never had a good wipeout. I've had plenty in my life growing up.

We got this one last year for my then 11 year old. Going to get another one for my 14 year old.
amazon

I don't think it matters what "brand" you get, it's coming from China.

A common issue with the majority of these bikes, especially the ones with 14 or 16" wheels, is you can't even fill the tires with air b/c there's no room. Such a stupid design. You have to buy a new tire that has a curved valve. Some of them may have started making that change, if they have decent customer support and want to satisfy their customers.

I think the thing to remember is these things aren't going to last long. I have no proof or anecdotal evidence, but i seriously doubt these batteries make it to year 4-5. If they are like any other battery we use, that's about its life. Your kid will likely be interested in something else by the time the battery goes out anyway. My point is, i wouldn't go buy a $1500 ebike for a kid who's goign to ride it for about 2 years, when there's $300 ebikes that'll last long enough for him.
How do you let a guy go 10-15 from 3?
Quit letting him shoot dumbasses!!
Would you rather $54M spread out over 6 years, or $30M right now?

That's the negotiation that's going on.

I'm sure there's a number for Kelly that he would be happy with all up front. He's not getting $54M up front. The conversation being had is what is the lump sum amount he would take up front, and it won't be the full $54M.

LSU can continue to pay him the $54M over 6 years, which they are contracted to do, and he can get another job right now and LSU will pay whatever teh difference is over those 6 years. I think most people assume he will be getting another coaching job, so you'd think LSU would be fine with paying the full amount over 6 years b/c they won't end up paying him the full $54M if he gets another job.

Say he gets a job were he makes $5m/yr. LSU is still going to have to pay him $5M/yr give or take a few hundred thousand.
or
Kelly can get $30M from LSU right now, and then still go get that same job and make $5M/yr

If Kelly wants to keep coaching, then it's probably better for him to take a lump sum from LSU right now
If he wants to retire, then yeah, he should just sit back and collect his $54M over the next few years.
I do want to move money from the Library and COA to help pay for stormwater and street projects. That is an excellent idea.

I don't want to help pay for BR debts using parish raised funds b/c they don't know how to manage their city finances.

I honestly don't disagree that it's a good compromise, but I just don't like the idea that they are taking money from a overly funded parish service, and using it for the city of Baton Rouge. When will Central, Baker or Zachary get to take money from parish funded entities and use it for their police departments pension plan, or for their police departments new building?

Is BR going to be able to run a fiscally responsible city gov't after they get bailed out? or are they going to be bitching in 2 years and asking those outside of the city for more money again?
The solution isn't in St. George, or Central, or Zachary. It's in BR.

They don’t want to be in the Catholic league anymore because they want to charge students to attend games. (Can the LHSAA ban the free student admissions?)

Is that a new orleans thing?

Catholic charges their own students to go to games.

It was a business decision. He made millions in NIL this year, and there was no guarantee about his NFL draft position or contract.

Shoug was drafted early 2nd. $10.8M guaranteed contract for 4 years.
Gabriel round 3. 4 years $6.2M. Only his $1.16M signing bonus is guaranteed.
Shedeur round 5. 4 years $4.6M. Only his $447k signing bonus is guaranteed.

If he did in fact get $3M+ in NIL, he absolutely made the right move.

and there's no way we can keep going this route. I don't understand how individuals can give away their money to college athletes, especially incoming freshman. You can't keep expecting donors to pay the salaries of these now professional athletes.
Bradley has been playing really great at RB.

Konate is a big problem obviously, but i think Salah is the bigger issue. Teams aren't even sending that 2nd guy to stop him anymore, and he's still not doing anything positive. last year anytime he touched the ball a 2nd defender would come over frantically to help, now they just leave him one on one and he just dribbles straight into the defender and loses the ball more often than not.

just some way too early transfer news:
quote:

Liverpool are keen on Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh, according to Football Insider. It is said that the Reds are "plotting a move" for the 21-year-old, having identified him as a potential future replacement for Mohamed Salah, who will enter the final 18 months of his deal at Anfield in January. Minteh has directly contributed to four goals in 11 Premier League matches this season, and previously worked under Liverpool manager Arne Slot during his time at Feyenoord.

Oregon State -20.5 over SHSU

Sam Houston got their first win of the season, and only the 2nd time they covered the spread all year.

They were outgained 474 to 157 in total yards and still somehow won 21-17.
Shame on you Oregon State.
kickoff returned for a TD and block punt returned for a TD.

Oregon State missed 2 FGs, threw 2 interceptions deep in their opponents territory, and was able to miraculously get an interception with a minute thirty left in the game at the Sam Houston 28 down 4, and couldn't get a 1st down.
Just pathetic.

OP did well going 4-2. I....not so much.

St. George followed Baker, Zachary & Central in not including funding for constitutional offices. So they do not fund the parish prison, DA or the coroner.

Why don't we just post the facts of what actually funds the DA office.

You see that City of Baton Rouge $8,850,986? That's the City-Parish general fund.

You can go here and see the breakdown of all the revenue and expenditures of EBR
LINK

Sales taxes make up almost 2/3's of the general fund revenue, while property taxes are around 1/4th.
I've sprayed Malathion twice now and it has done a pretty good job. They are still not completely gone but it's a lot better than it was.

I didn't like putting that guava infested tree in the greenhouse with the other trees, but i haven't had an issue on the other trees i have all summer.

Imidacloprid

I was trying to avoid using that. When you use that you're not supposed to eat the fruit for at least 2 years after using it.
That is what i used on the flowering tree that had the bad infestation.

I wasn't planning on eating any fruit next season anyway as i'm still trying to let my trees grow and shape them correctly.

From the description of the one you attached:

Systemic Insect Control Granules are not intended for use on edible plants like herbs, vegetables or fruit bearing plants
quote:

It’s the general lack of ball movement when he is out there that drives me crazy. Look how the guys with Queen move when he has the ball, because Queen will find you cutting to the hole.

When Queen doesn't have the ball, he's running to set screens. You rarely see him just standing somewhere doing nothing. He routinely will set one screen near the left wing, play doesn't go anywhere and it's now on the right wing and he goes set the screen over there as well.

When Zion doesn't have the ball, he might as well go sit on the bench b/c it's no different than him standing in the corner not moving, and more importantly, not being a threat of any kind.

If these cities do not step up and help fund our court system and District Attorney's office. That crime will become a problem for the entire parish and all municipalities with this parish.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you think we can just opt out of paying for parish services?
He's the DA for East Baton Rouge. citizens of St. George and Central don't have a choice. We pay taxes, just like citizens of Baton Rouge do.
Whether there's a dedicated tax that goes to them, or some other generic parish tax that goes into the CITY/parish fund, we all pay our share to the DA's office.
