Why do you think that TD is such a magnet for those with alternative beliefs?

This is not a judgment on those beliefs or meant to be a discussion on them, or meant to classify if they are "right" or "wrong".

I'm classifying "alternative beliefs" as those outside of the mainstreams of science or society.

Things like Creationism, various conspiracy theories, flat earth theories, etc.

TD seems to attract a lot of people with these belief structures, and I'm just curious as to why you think that is?

There's usually only like 1 or 2 people in those threads that believe the alternative.

The biggest weirdos are the people that will sit here the entire day arguing with them. There's plenty of them in every thread it seems

They allowed a bagillion page long Q thread? Doesn't take much for the word to get out.

Where you are on the spectrum of thinking and your particular context and vantage point is all relative.

From where you are coming matters.

How you place yourself versus others matters more (I am right, you are "alternative" or "wrong").

I find a more open minded, neutral approach brings me the most understanding of others.

Where did you grow up?

Most of TD is in the so called "Bible belt", and the Bible teaches creationism.

The vast vast vast majority of Christians I know with even rudimentary education don't believe in strict Creationism.

I think that's a very small but vocal subset.

various conspiracy theories

It all depends on what you consider to be a conspiracy theory. For example, it’s a fact that the gulf of Tonkin incident was staged and used as pretext to scale up operations in Vietnam

However, some still consider this a “conspiracy theory” even though the evidence shows it’s a fact

Perhaps it is all that heat and humidity in Louisiana?

All that grass cutting gives me time to thinking about things like ‘ where do ideas originate ‘ and ‘ what is thinking ?’ .

It's pretty well known the IQ levels in Louisiana are low.
