Hey, ask those closest to you what they think of your drinking. Sensing from your post that you may need to sit down when they tell you.

Key math for me: How many 45 day consecutive periods have you had zero alcohol in the last 5 years? I knew my answer (to similar question I had one time I my life) after I did the math.

The big lesson, in my opinion, for young folks to learn is the value of time value of money. And the return (1 + k)^n, as in “k”, is less important than time “n”.

In balance of enjoying life, nature of the accuracy of predictive value of financial markets, and realization that time is most precious resource, it is less important to take precious life and spend it maximizing return and, instead, just making regular investments into index funds over time.

Less “fun”, yes. More effective, “yes”.

Teach them to live below their means, invest the difference, explore index funds with broad risk (see Boglehead approach), and make it automatic.

Have had one for 13 years.

They have fallen behind the competitive curve in most categories. Time for something new.

Principle aside (that I agree with), linear thinking is mythical.

Have to factor risk of the day, as well. Won’t behave so linear. Life ain’t so linear.
