re: How much do you really need to be happy? - Grassy1
I grew up poor. I lived lavishly poor through my 20s. I got married at 32. I’m finally getting ahead at 35. We are trying to save as much as we can right now so we can buy a long-term home. This has consumed my finances to the point where I feel poor because I’m managing every expense...

re: Cookware suggestions and opinions on Tramontina - Grassy1
Sorry so long to get back to this thread. Was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Tramontina and remembered this thread. I think I'll try to get by Costco in the next day or so. Thanks Highcotton. If someone wants the Tramontina set, it's on sale on the Kohl's site (ends today though.)....

re: Istrouma Brewing worth the ride? - Grassy1
I went a few Fridays ago. I was very impressed. Great atmosphere, several different places to mingle, eat and drink. That night they were making pizzas that were pretty good, I'd assume this is their normal. Several different beers. Not much in the form of IPA that day, but enough of a sel...

re: People who change their cell numbers every few years - Grassy1
But also, having a chance to escape some of the constant robocalls is a plus. I get like 10 - 15 a day and it is miserable.
Good luck. It's unlikely you'll get a virgin number, you'll get someone else's robocalls and ex's....

re: How much do you really need to be happy? - Grassy1
This is a nice thread. A civil conversation about real life without the normal, even real life braggadocio. I don't know the answer to the question, even for my own life. Too many variables right now, and I'm relatively old compared to most of you. I think I'm pretty close to happy right now...

re: Taxes. How do I minimize the pain? - Grassy1
have dumped them. But please explain the surprises. I still have a position in a stock that made and lost a lot of cash but it has made more than it lost. Should I sell before Dec 1st?
Does December 1 have significant ramifications? It'll be here Tuesday. I've got one lo...

Cookware suggestions and opinions on Tramontina - Grassy1
Looking for a decent cookware set for a Christmas gift to ourselves. And I'm certainly no chef, but hoping to spend more time in the kitchen the next several years. I ran across a suggestion on some via the NYtimes consumer page, but I know often these suggestions are compensated. [link=(http...

Capital One Bank holding money that was taken fraudulently - Grassy1
I really hate to bring this up, but I really need some advice. A person very close to me was harassed and intimidated over the phone. This elderly person was convinced that if she didn't liquify her funds that day and deposit them into "their" Capital One account that she would go to jail, etc. ...

Local/Small bank in the Baton Rouge area for business banking? - Grassy1
I've had enough of Chase's inability to help in a humanly fashion. I won't bore you with the details, but they have just pissed me off too many times to let them to continue use my money interest free. I'm looking for a bank that offers the normal online bill pay stuff, and a phone app that I ca...

re: I keep waiting for the housing market to "correct", but will it ever? - Grassy1
If the house you sell was worth 200k but dropped 10% in value and the house you are buying is 100k and dropped 10% in value, then it is actually a loss. Flip the scenario and it is a win.
So lemme get this straight... 10% of $200,000 is more than 10% of $100,00? ...
