Lane Kiffin Shares Heartfelt Comments About Ed Orgeron's Return To The Team

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has returned to the Tigers' football program after being away since fall camp to address a serious health concern.
Orgeron, who joined Lane Kiffin's staff this offseason, returned to the sidelines for LSU's win over Mississippi State on October 17 and joined the team for its road win over Auburn last Saturday.
During Wednesday's SEC Coaches Teleconference, Kiffin was asked about Orgeron's return and shared some heartfelt comments about what it has meant to have Coach O back around the program.
"Great. You know, Mississippi State was the first one where he was technically back at the game. He'd met with some recruits before the previous week, but it was the first time back walking out in Tiger Stadium," Kiffin said.
"It was awesome. He came to me after and said how appreciative he was that I brought him back and how special that was for him. He never knew whether he would walk out there again, you know, and hadn't been back here in the years in between.
"And so to kind of mend that, and I love that I was able to be a part of that.
"And then for him to be at Auburn, and he knows how hard it is to play there over the years and how the LSU-Auburn games have always been wars, and to have a game like that, he was just really—I walked out with him, and he was just—it just brings joy to me.
"And I think there's a lot of—not that you asked—there's a lot of my dad and Coach O that, like, I see, and comes out just how they are to people and their excitement and their love of coaching.
"And so it's almost like I feel like my dad's in there a little bit with him. So, not that you asked for all that."
And in typical Coach O fashion, Orgeron is already back on the recruiting trail, hitting the road during LSU's bye week as the Tigers prepare for next Saturday's matchup against Alabama.
