Just watch the fine print on those carbon contracts. Some try to pull nonsense like no grazing for the life of the contract.....even seen one stating 50 years after the contract is up.

I'm all for making money, but these solar "farms" need to be in urban areas where large buildings and large parking lots can be covered by them. I hate to see nature ruined by "green" energy. Plus, the EMF these things throw out....

My comment was in jest. The carbon credit/offset scheme, especially as it is applied with respect to timber companies and the land they own, is nothing more than a grift. They're already having negative consequences.

Can somebody tell me how one gets picked to have a solar farm?

Purely hypothetical of course but do any of y’all know a solar landman?

They can be impressively large. But I have no problem. Gotta put solar panels somewhere.

proximity to transmission lines & substations key factor

even then these things have a incredibly low rate of ever getting built something like single digit % of land that is optioned for solar development gets built. It's a 5 year permitting process with the electric co, gov't etc.

ETA the already wealthy land owners will benefit from leasing their land and none of the power generated will supply local power. It would generate a handful of local jobs because solar farms don’t require upkeep.

You're also destroying green space and leaching toxic heavy metals into the environment.

Solar farms are a good option in the desert.

Just another "climate change" boondoggle.

The object is not to solve the problem. The object is to take control of another major sector of our GDP (ENERGY) to be put solely in the hands of the government. The current technology of batteries / capacitors / and transformers is not yet remotely up to snuff for this to be a viable energy solution. The same exact issues exist with useless wind farms that are an absolute maintenance, recycling, and environmental nightmare.

They are also consistently proposing to "FIX" or takeover Health Care. Same reason. They have NO SOLUTIONS. They simply want control of another massive portion of our GDP to be under their control to steal from.

Don't believe me? How is Social Security doing since they have be raiding it since the Clinton/Gore "lockbox" garbage. Look it up.

These problems are just an excuse for bottomless spending.

but in urban areas there are a lot of underutilized previously developed space that could be retrofitted with solar. These are the areas we should be looking to utilize for solar.

Could you imagine the uproar if we started bulldozing blighted neighborhoods and putting in solar farms?

I don’t have an issue with it as long as it’s not forcing people to lose farm land, family land, or being forced to sell their home and move.

If the company just bought a bunch of acres of land, cleared it, and are putting up panels that way, i really don’t see the issue with it.

You want to clear trees to make raw land to construct a solar farm. But you don’t want to use farmland. Do you realize most farmland down here once had trees that were cleared

No thanks

I’d like to see how solar panels would hold up in a cat 4 hurricane. I would imagine there would be metal shards littered for miles

I'll say this, from a harm to the environment perspective, solar farms are way better than dams and windmills. ETA: Folks need a logic class. Just because I say one thing is better than the other, doesn't mean the first thing is good. ie: A kick in the mouth is better than a kick in the nuts. Doesn't mean I'm saying a kick in the mouth is good...

Nuclear power is the answer. No need for windmills are solar farms, but people have been brainwashed to believe nuclear power is the Devil.
