What do you people have against solar farms?

I'm all against change just for the sake of being against change... But this is just funny to me. A packed house of people opposing something that would benefit the community and virtually none of them would ever even see.

And timber prices are crap and probably going to be for a long time in the area.
And one of them was from a local Co-op! Insanity.

You think the community of Gillis will benefit from a solar farm?
ETA the already wealthy land owners will benefit from leasing their land and none of the power generated will supply local power. It would generate a handful of local jobs because solar farms don’t require upkeep.

I'll say this, from a harm to the environment perspective, solar farms are way better than dams and windmills.
ETA: Folks need a logic class. Just because I say one thing is better than the other, doesn't mean the first thing is good. ie: A kick in the mouth is better than a kick in the nuts. Doesn't mean I'm saying a kick in the mouth is good...

It'd probably make Gillis look a lot better.
How come they ain't pushing to cover parking lots with these instead of farmland? I know it'd probably be a lot more expensive but if they're that worried about the environment it seems like they would be trying to utilize land that's already been developed instead of taking away habitat/farmland.

Let me guess, you are either the landowner or you know the landowners?

I don’t have an issue with it as long as it’s not forcing people to lose farm land, family land, or being forced to sell their home and move.
If the company just bought a bunch of acres of land, cleared it, and are putting up panels that way, i really don’t see the issue with it.
I’m sure though there is some underlying issues that all those people are upset about. I just hope it’s not the 60 plus crowd not knowing shite about the truth of it and just repeating some verbiage they saw or heard as why it’s a problem

Why not?

It's a waste of money. You ever see how many get completely damaged by hail, etc every year?

I get where you're coming from (and in rural or suburban areas I would agrees), but in urban areas there are a lot of underutilized previously developed space that could be retrofitted with solar. Of course you can't rent farmland dirt cheap and promise farmers a big money return in the city...

They are trying to take away good farmland in other parts of the state. There’s plenty of idle land in BFE they can use. It makes no sense.

These are the areas we should be looking to utilize for solar.

other than they are bad for the environment and increase the cost of energy, there is nothing wrong with them.

How do solar farms hold up to hurricanes considering gillis is in south louisiana.

This. The solar farm approved on hwy 14 south of LC will provide zero power for the area. 100% of it will be fed to the power grid and sent out the state.

Lmao.
Look at a turbine array in a farmer’s field. He can farm up to the beauty ring of rock at the base of the stairs. He can still utilize 90% of his land.
A solar farm covers the land.
Idk anything about dams, never worked in hydroelectric. But I’ve built wind farms and I’ve built PV
