I don't eat pine trees which this project is replacing... and I don't feel it's my place to tell the land owners what they can and can't do with their land

for the subsidy crowd farming is one of the most subsidized industries we got:

Exactly. And, take a look at India.

They are offering 1000$ plus acre for good productive farm land

Only problem is what happens when tech gets old?
New govt admin?

These newly formed companies will drop like flies file bankruptcy and its land owners responsibility to get the shitboff property , which will cost a fortune

It takes a long time for the tech to get old. Tier 1 modules have a 35 year useful life.

Meaningless. Solar tax credits are taken in the year of interconnection.

Most require a reserve fund for remediation.

What you should do, being that you own the land and it a monoculture of pines, is get in on the carbon credit grift. The government will even pay you to replant if the trees get knocked down or they burn. Then, you get the government to do upkeep/management (however minimal that actually may be) on the wooded property via taxpayer funding. The Cali timber owners are just smarter on the grift than you Louisiana baws. They don't have to do anything to the land, ultimately still have the timber to eventually harvest, and still get paid through a convoluted government-subsidized scheme.

They install a shite load more wind and solar than anyone else too.

The US has about 250GWp of wind and solar planned right now, China has about 1050GWp.

Do you like furniture? Do you like paper? Do you like things made from pine??

Take idle land .. sure. But not land that is producing something.

Let the farms all get sold .. let them. Better start growing your own food.

Cause guess what? It’s does not come from the grocery store.

They sure have a lot of people here who want the government to tell folks what to do with privately owned land.

I bet a lot of people don't like others telling them what to do with their personal land/property but have no problem telling these land owners what to do with theirs

This is really the core issue here. Coming from someone who has personally rejected solar projects on our ranch because we didn't want to look at it, has 1 operational wind farm and another project the FAA via the DoD terminated and routinely has pipelines plow through my land and pay whatever the govt tells them they have to pay me with no consideration for how much they frick things up.

For this one and the others in the area they are putting a VERY wide buffer of trees around them. Enough that they cannot be seen from the highways near them.

Which just seems odd to me since other states run them right down the side of the interstate all day long.

Solar farms are taking away wintering grounds for numerous migrating birds.

I know of 4 farms in SE Texas that removed available winter water for birds.

There are better areas for solar that make less impact to the environment.

This is a tough one for me. I don't really like the mob or the govt being able to tell someone what they can do with their land. I also think, in the long run, it's bad for the environment. Also, it's a stupid form of electricity.

I like all those things I also like personal property rights and the freedom to make my own choices regarding the economics of managing my land.

Currently the southern usa pine is in oversupply. The timber farmers have been getting shite on by the mills for years now. Timber futures were at all time highs after covid and the zero interest rate era, did that translate to more $ for the farms. hell to the nah. the mills were the only one's who benefitted many owned by canadian timber companies...

OG article said this is project is a 1000 acres, this solar farm will provide 10's of millions of dollars to the land owners over the life of the project conservatively.

lot's talk big game but with faced with same opportunity would be interested to see how "ugly" solar farms are, or how much you love furniture

If solar farms are so great why don't they cover Arizona and Nevada with them? Plenty of just barren useless land out there

If that 1000 acre lease is like the ones of I’ve seen, that will produce over 38,000,000 for the lease holder when it executes. Not to mention the 125k they’re already making annually during the development period.

It’s life changing, generational money. I’ll never blame any landowner for taking that.
