Dumb frick said you can't shoot yourself with a long gun. Sure is a ton of people in the ground and walking around breathing a sigh of relief that it wasn't them after all, damn gun must have grown a brain.

Sid is such a cuck. I am shocked he got involved in this. That dude hasn't been a cop in 30 years. He must figure this gets him votes somehow.

Felons with Gun / Drugs with Gun is supposed to be a 5 year mandator sentence. I think that is a solid actual 5 years not DOC good behavior time (about 18months).

The issue is most of our DA like Hillar Moore -EBR, Jason Williams -- NO, Scott Perrilloux -- Hammond. etc will plead them down to a soft sentence often less then actual 1 year served. Often violet felon offenders caught with guns are released in less then 60 days.

Stop the pleads, no bonds. If you are a felon or in possession without the intent weight drug -- then charges should NEVER be plead down.

I feel this would go a long ways in changing the culture here in Louisiana.

They had their chance. I trust my aim better than their response time.

I'm an LEO and this couldn't be more accurate. "When seconds count, cops are minutes away." When I was a shift sergeant, I had 7-8 deputies on a good day working for me. My district had over 150,000 residents. Do the math. We can't be everywhere at once.

Hold your GOP state reps' feet to the fire. Let them know in no uncertain terms if they don't support the veto override, their career is over.

Uhh, Mr Officer, a CC permit in anybody's pocket during a "shooting situation" won't solve the mystery either. No one is producing a CC in a shootout.

This poses an exponential threat to every law enforcement officer in the state," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. "It's hard enough for us to do our jobs... This Sheriff doesn't want anyone to have guns.

He obviously thinks a gun is evidence of a crime if only criminals have guns in his world.

Because unless cops gain some facial recognition glasses that can instantly tell them that you’re a convicted felon or not a convicted felon, they will not be able to use the excuse anymore that, “Well he had a gun.” The police will now have to automatically assume that your are not a felon, in possession of a firearm and will have to conduct further investigation to then detain you and then find out truly if you are indeed a convicted felon.

Newsflash. Guns are not illegal and certainly should not be used to judge if someone is a criminal.

Question does the money collected for CCP go to law enforcement? My guess is they get a cut of that revenue and do not want to lose it.

Exactly. Law abiding citizens obey the law. It's not a hard, or even difficult concept.

No guns are not illegal, but currently in Louisiana it is illegal to conceal one without a permit, so if a cop sees a concealed firearm, he can automatically detain/arrest you. So their classic excuse to profile a certain class is use the excuse “Well he had a gun.” Say all that you want, the cops are only upset about this veto getting overridden because it will make their jobs a lot harder for policing lower income neighborhoods. Majority of men in the hood carry a firearm on a daily bases and now it will be legal for them without some bullshite $350 fee and the police are just butt hurt.

All the leos that I know and discussed this with are for the change.

DAs never prosecute illegal carry anyway.

And they love that.

Even though it is illegal.

Yet I'm always told they wouldn't confiscate guns if given the choice.
