Absolutely not.

A data breach or ransomware event are two of the worst possible scenarios for any business. A tend to agree with some others who said if a business isn't taking cybersecurity seriously, they should get dinged. But I'd wager over 90% of serious businesses are at or close to cybersecurity best practices by now. The other 10% are very foolish.

They may very well be but the majority of day breaches aren’t brute force attacks/hacks.

It’s Paul down in accounting reusing the same password for his login that he uses for PornHub or he clicked on a link he shouldn’t have and the password was stolen/phished.

The “best practices” guidelines generally don’t help with this and it’s just a way for companies to point to a third party and say “well we’re doing everything they say we should.”

If your company is legitimately hacked and you’ve done everything recommended, fine. Chalk it up to the game. However if your data breach of 1.5mil people resulted from Paul scenario above, yes your company should be liable/fined.
Sir, I will take all of those off your hands.

Does this only apply to e data?

Do companies get penalized for robberies? Arson? Blackmail?

Can we penalize them if anything bad happens to them? They can prevent everything, right?

I don’t remember the Capital One robber getting my SSN, bank account, CC#, and various other bits of personal information like they did with the ATT data breach.
A watch is a tool.

If you aren’t going to wear it, don’t buy it. I know guys that have Rolex,Tudors, Omegas, Breitlings, etc that wear the shite out of them in some intense fields. Not saying you have to be dumb with it but to me part of the “joy” of a watch, especially one that you’re considering an heirloom, is the watch having some character and stories to tell.

If you aren’t going to wear the watch, don’t buy it. You won’t be happy with it.
Ive done several death notifications when I was in LE. The two that I remember the most:

One was the mother of a 9yr old who was killed in a single vehicle crash where her drunk/high dad hit a tree. The mom was getting ready for a date and thought I was there for a noice complaint bc she was playing music while getting ready.

Another was the mother of a recent HS graduate (about a week post graduation) who died in a crash with his mom’s exBF that he was still close with. She thought my partner and I were hot and made a comment to her coworker that if she doesn’t come back to not come looking for her.

This is saving us from drunk arse Memorial Day Revelers driving a hummer towing a boat from crashing into you at a decent rate of speed at a red light (that's what happened to me).

It’s not saving you from anything. It’s not like this law coming into effect and assuming all of us are drinking and driving, replaces all the vehicles on the road.

I had a metal roof done about 3yrs ago. 2700 sq ft house for ~$24k

I don’t know about any of you guys, but whether I’m 28 or 40, if I wake up to my pecker being swollen then bleeding everywhere making coffee, I’m going to the doctor at light speed.
When stuff like this happens, generally the family of the victim is involved.

Since they were related, the family likely just wanted to be done with it. The family’s thoughts on stuff like this does bear a decent amount of weight in my experience.

True.

He did follow through with NOLA though, so maybe there’s hope for BR.
Well considering we have more generals/admirals now per serviceman, in peacetime, than we did during wartime, we can get rid of a few.

I don’t really care what the reasoning is.
On the surface this seems like it’s being made out to be something it’s not.
