Can you imagine going into a shooting situation, and you walk in a room and everybody's holding a gun? You're not going to know who the bad guy—who the good guys are.

Well Sid, from what it seems, you guys don’t show up till after the shooting is over so the bad guy is probably the one left standing.

As with most gun control laws, this only effects law abiding citizens.

This is what I never understand about gun laws. They will NEVER work because criminals NEVER follow the laws anyway.

The “good guys” will be the ones who drop their guns when told to do so. Whoever ignores the cop is the bad guy and should be shot on the spot.

In Louisiana it’s usually pretty clear who the criminals are

The police know that it is the criminals who carry unpermitted concealed weapons. They want the ability, when they discover an unpermitted concealed weapon, to seize the weapon and thereby take it off the street, and have the ability to arrest the person carrying unlawfully. Allowing unpermitted concealed carry for everyone, including felons and people who are known to be no good, removes the ability to disarm the bad guys.

The police prefer to have the upper hand regarding criminals. forcing police to just ignore known criminals with guns in their belts makes everyone less safe.

Wrong. To them you’re already dead, you just don’t know it.

What about when police don't arrive? I can't depend on the police to arrive in a timely manner when my life is threatened. Also, if I lived in north BR, I would expect the cops to slow roll and not be in a hurry with the current political climate. All this "blue lives matter" shite goes out the window when cops are a) corrupt and following corrupt orders (Paul) b) don't show up in time.

It will still be illegal for felons to carry firearms. This law only allows for law abiding citizens to carry without a permit.

To the cops, if you’re not one of them they could care less. They laugh at civilians who aren’t willing to protect themselves. If they can’t defend themselves, they had it coming.

I'm not doubting your claim, but do you have a link to this statistic somewhere? When I try to search, it just comes up with New Orleans and some BR.

It’s more depressing than that, 40 percent is the national average, some cities have much, much higher rates.

If they are a felon and carrying, they are already doing it illegally.

If you’re drinking and carrying, you’re doing something illegal.

This doesn’t remove any of the officers abilities to stop law breakers, it allows law abiding citizens to protect themselves because cops cannot be everywhere all the time.

It’s funny that people are still willing to obey laws that put them and their families at risk. As for me I don’t care what the laws are. Don’t offend the police and they won’t mess with you.

Strange that it’s legal to open carry but the second the citizen conceals the firearm, that’s where these cops have a problem. If they did a better job handling the folks breaking the law they could whine less about law abiding citizens trying to defend themselves.

I can promise you this will keep officers from contacting even less people.

Now, anyone can be carrying.

I damn sure hope it’s passed. I carry plenty of times now

They are just nervous because when this veto is overridden, it’s opens the door for them to be vulnerable for huge civil settlements. Like with Alton Sterling, at first glance he can legally conceal that “pistol” now, so in situations like that, it would be a wrongful death on the cops part. Felon or not, everyone will have the right to conceal a handgun, so you have to find another way to search that person and find out he is indeed a felon and can’t possess the firearm. You can’t just see a concealed firearm and immediately go for an arrest or draw your weapon.
