Let's Check in on the California Ocean Front Rebuild

A year and a half later and absolutely nothing. The angry lesbians at the permitting office are definitely blocking any rebuilding.

My SIL and her husband live fairly close to the beach on the Redondo Beach-Torrance town border there in LA county.
They had severe mold in their house due to a sewer leak under their house (totally unrelated to the fires). They've been living in a $5k per month rent house since January and they haven't even been able to submit for a permit to the county yet. They're still playing dick around games with the GC and the architect. At this rate, it will be 2 years before they can move back into their house.

I bet the loss of property tax revenue runs in the 100's of millions range with those properties lying dormant.
Yeah, they're collecting some property tax on the empty lots, but losing WAY more with it not being rebuilt.

Lahaina in Hawaii has the exact same problem.
