drop. I don't even think the state police presence did much

I think it did. There was a point a month or two ago where there was an LSP chase every other day. The feds, LSP, and local police have been cracking down around the city. Raids daily. Even writing traffic citations in Lakeview.

If the state police are fixing it good on then. Otherwise, useless group of cops. Good they are put to actual work.

A combination of these:

1. Reporting mischief.
2. Pressure to clean things up in advance of the SB.
3. New police chief and involvement of state police and AG.
4. Some luck.
5. The comparison with a bad year and high numbers.

Make no mistake. The city isn’t safer. This can revert back to the bad side with the quickness.

Let's not forget, there's less NOPD, so that's less criminals right there...

Could also partially be the FBI's Operation Clean up:

The operation officially ended on June 26, resulting in a combined 155 arrests, 54 firearms confiscated, 10 firearm switches, and 39 instances of illegal narcotics taken off the streets.

From that story it seems they don't really know why it got better. A bunch of nebulous statements with no support.

yeah, I am sure the state police were tailing all the would-be thug killers, making them too nervous to whack someone...

It’s not rocket science. City leaders have a vested interest in painting things in a better light. They release the data they want to release.

They are cooking the books. It is hard to report a crime if the police never answer the phone or respond to calls.

Actual reasons:

1) Holding juveniles as long as possible and making as many transfers of juveniles to adult court as possible.

2) Chief Meemaw.

I figured this was it, but had a hard time believing that Jason Williams would be on board with this...
