The more telling stats would be for non-fatal shootings. Some of this may be attributable to bad shots and better medical care.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but times have changed, and they have numbers and organization along with lots of cash.

Things are going to change the next 2 decades in Southern LA, thats not an if, its a when.

The article comes up with BS reasons for the drop...I don't believe higher police pay or non-profits working with kids in the city had any effect on this murder rate drop. I don't even think the state police presence did much...

So what are the plausible reasons?

My old man's recollection is that they had something like this a few decades ago where NOLA itself had a sudden drop in murders but surrounding municipalities had a spike, particularly in the areas that directly bordered the City. Also, increased sitings of NOPD vehicles near where those bodies were found with unusually clean crime scenes. ALmost like someone had dropped them there. That was all anecdotal though.

You're right, of course.

Less reporting is the primary factor, obviously.

Demographics are likely the biggest factor; less teenagers= less crime.
