Speaking as an 8 yr veteran LEO I'll say that there are many douchebag cops and looking back, most all of us were terrible at our jobs for the first several years. Unfortunately alot of guys that get into Law enforcement do not have the personality that this job takes. You almost have to treat this job as if you are a salesman. The public needs to hear positivity and that they are safe and not always under attack by the cops. There will always be the cop haters and the scummies that do not want to follow the laws. But that's why they call it serve and protect. Some of these responses are very warranted. I don't speak for all cops because I've seen the worst of the worst and I know how the shitty ones can be.

I’ve mostly had good interactions with the police except one. I was driving on the Bayway in mobile doing 70 in the fast lane when a cop come screaming up behind me. I get in the right lane to get out of his way but I failed to use my blinker he swerves gets in behind me and pulled me over when we get off. He was a total dick about it even though He was probably going 80 in a 65 and I was just trying to get out of his way as quick as I could.

No. I've had a couple times where they were somewhat hostile and short with me but I remained polite and nothing escalated. For people with anger and impulse issues or simpletons, those two times could have escalated.

I did at LaTech back in the 80's. GF had her car blocked in at the end of the dorm parking lot and needed to get to work so we called campus PD to come get the info and contact/tow the offender.

Idiot cop then tried to order me to go to my own dorm across campus when I said I'd just get some of the guys to come help lift and turn the offender vehicle since he not gonna do anything about it. He was really ticked when I laughed in his face and told him get bent as that was unenforceable order.

A couple years earlier I got a couple of the campus cops in trouble for following students off campus and stuff. They tried to get me for DUI when I was taking my gf around for ladies night. Waited till I dropped her off at her dorm and as I was pulling away from that lit me up. All the girls came out to watch me blow a 0.0 and then listen to the woman cop rant about if anyone blows 0.05 or higher she runs them in regardless of any other circumstances, indications. She got mad when I commented on lacking her discretion is when she doesn't use it (at that time law was "at officer's discretion at 0.05-0.1").

Then there was the DUI attempted charge for when I blew 0.6 by Ruston PD. Overheard the breathalyzer guy tell the arresting officer to let me go and the guy refused. Then he lied in court about that conversation. I had a couple cuties and another arrestee for witnesses on my behalf too. Judge found me more credible than the cop, not guilty.

Sir, your folks had raised you up to show respect to people and in turn, those people show you respect. Your folks did a fine job.

I am very white, and have had at least one really bad interaction with BRPD that has forever left a bad taste in my mouth. I am always very respectful to officers. I believe in "comply in the moment, fight it in court".

There was a BRPD officer sitting in Hart Lot on Aster Street with a flashlight waving cars over. He waves me over right after I pulled out of the parking lot by WCA heading towards Highland Road. I ask him why he is pulling me over, he just tells me to hand over my license, registration, proof of insurance, and to get out of the car. As soon as he has my info, he slams me against the hood and searches me. Finding nothing, he turns to my date and asks for her ID while asking if she is "of age" (we were both old enough to drink). He then searches my car, once again, finding nothing.

Finally, he gives me a speeding ticket claiming I was going 40 in a 30. In response, I ask to see his radar gun. He claims he doesn't have to show me that. I respond that according to state law he does. He rumbles "Fine!". He then proceeds to dig around in his trunk for almost 10 minutes trying to find it. Then, when he walks up to the window to show it to me he says sarcastically "oops, I cleared it, guess it's your word against mine", and then sent me on my way. That ticket was for over $200 when he wasn't radaring, had no proof, and I WASN'T EVEN SPEEDING!!! I assume he was profiling students trying to catch DUI's, MIPs, and drugs, but he had the gall to stiff me with a bogus ticket when I wasn't doing anything wrong. That's f&%ked up.

Thankfully, when I went to court and told all of this to the DA, they dropped the ticket. That POS cop didn't even show up for the court date.

Yes, once. Had a cop on a power trip pull me over in Brusly because my registration and inspection were expired. I had moved from Texas and had not gotten the registration changed because I didn't want to pay taxes on the value of the car. Definitely my fault but this is not some huge deal. He asked the usual questions and wanted to know what I was doing in Brusly. Told him I now live in Baton Rouge and work in Brusly. He knows my boss and said he was going to call him and tell him what happened. That's when he went too far and I told him if he dared get involved in my job that I will be calling HIS boss just as fast. He then told me if he saw me again he was going to take my vehicle and have it towed. I worked there, he could see my 5 days a week!

Then weed out your "bad apples" and stop toeing the blue line when an officer is accused of something. Everyone in the department knows if an accusation by a citizen against an officer is likely true or not...when you defend the idiots among you, then you become an idiot.

Right; and along with paramedics that’s all we need in terms of first responders.

Does it sound like I’m defending anyone? I do my job at my department. We have great officers. I can’t help what other places do.
