Tennessee Loses Starting Defender For The Season

Tennessee will be without starting safety Edrees Farooq for the entire 2026 season after the junior suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee during Friday morning’s practice. Farooq was taken from the practice field by ambulance to UT Medical Center for further evaluation before Tennessee confirmed the season-ending injury Saturday.
It’s a significant blow to the Volunteers’ secondary, as Farooq started all 13 games last season and finished tied for third on the team with 76 tackles, while adding two interceptions, three pass breakups and four forced fumbles. With Farooq sidelined, Tennessee is expected to lean more heavily on Penn State transfer Dejuan Lane, Michigan transfer T.J. Metcalf and sophomore Dylan Lewis at safety.
