A BRPD cop gave me a ride back to my dorm from Reggie’s freshmen year. Every other interaction I have had has been negative.

Yes, was sent to charity hospital by NOPD back in 2001. They beat the shite out of me on bourbon and during transport to parish prison, threatened to kill me and dump my body in an alley. And get this, I’m white.

I had a Birmingham Police officer yell at me and the girl in the car in front of me for supposedly driving around some traffic cones. This was at UAB at the intersection by the then football offices the day they shut down the football program in 2014. They were blocking some traffic because of protestors and the UAB President being there. The way they had the police cars and traffic cones set up made it seem like they were blocking traffic from one direction but were allowing traffic to turn the way I was going. Anyway when I made my turn (along with other cars making the same turn), which wasn’t blocked by cones or police cars, this cop came chasing after us. I pulled over immediately as did the girl in the car in front of me. Cop gets out and screams at the girl in the car in front of me, then comes to me. He yells at me about driving around his cones. I apologize, saying I misinterpreted the way they were stopping traffic. He proceeds to chew me out, telling me apologies won’t get me out of a ticket, etc. etc. He didn’t write a ticket, he just wanted to be Mr. Bad Cop.

I support the cops and know that most aren’t this way. However, the cops that yell at you over a stupid mistake and play Mr. Bad Cop give the others a bad name.

TL;DR - Cones at intersection were set up haphazardly and didn’t make the traffic block clear, me and other cars turn, cop pulls us over and yells at us for driving around his crappy cone placement.

Yeah. As a kid, once. Not as an adult.

My first ticket when I was a teen I was speeding in a school zone, and the officer was a dick the whole time. I was nervous with "Yes/No Sirs". After he gave me the ticket he started to walk away, paused, and came back to say "Thanks for being respectful". That last piece helped establish my idea of police for sure, because that was my first interaction with a police officer.

Now I have learn you can't totally trust them, so important to be careful when talking to them, as their job is to find something. Doesn't mean to be disrespectful though. I had one tell me that he gauged my speed with a "Doppler" system in his Tahoe, when I asked how he got my speed when he was driving 1 over 100yds ahead of me. I still haven't been able to find any LEO that ever heard of that.

State troopers and EBR sheriffs are good in my book. City cops like BRPD and St. Gabriel PD suck.

I've had several negative experiences with the police... the ones I know personally are cool... in fact most I've came across on traffic stops are cool... that being said their are assholes out here ( white /black)
