Cremation or Burial?

Why not both?

You can have both. You can view the body before cremation and even put with them letters and small items that will burn up with them.

I grew up thinking cremation was weird and I tried to fight my mom over this with my dad's funeral. But, I have to say, it was way less painful not having him there to be viewed. We just had his ashes up there and a nice picture. That is the way to go IMO.

Same here. The idea that embalmed corpses in airtight coffins take years to decompose is weird, too.

Cremate me and us the ashes to make coffee.

We need viking funerals as an option.

My wife already knows my preference. It is to be cremated, not any need for an obituary in the local paper since those that know me will know I'm dead.

No funeral------just find a convenient time with good weather and have a big crawfish boil and let folks tell lies about me and keep it light.

She can do what she wants about the ashes. If she wants to inter them somewhere, fine. If she wants to keep them on the mantle, that's fine too.


I absolutely abhor the funeral industry and look at it as if they are similar to vultures just waiting for something to die so they can thrive.

Burial, but not view the body. No fhormeldohyde (however the frick you spell that). Just put the body in a simple box and bury it. No chemicals, no burning to ask. It will decompose on its own.

Was at a funeral in Lafayette a few months ago and the absolute procession. Full wake lasting hours, a full rosary, a full mass the next day, a burial. Like the King of fricking England.

Totally unnecessary and put on. The person died. Honor them, simply. But no, everyone forces people to go sit there while the dead body is right there for viewing. Its disgusting.

Many cemeteries are now setting aside areas for a columbarium. Sort of a mini-mausoleum. I think that is probably what my wife and I are leaning towards. It still gives folks a place to visit but doesn’t require a burial or a big box in the wall.
