re: Cremation or Burial?

I’m a converted Catholic and from what I’ve learned cremation is not preferred but is allowed by the Church. Also, I understand the ashes should be kept in their entirety in a container of some kind and not spread anywhere.

Since my battle with pancreatic cancer this past year I’ve given it a lot of thought. I’m kind of on the fence but I despise the funeral industry and don’t want to give them any more money than I have to. I’m leaning toward cremation and changing the directives in my will to cremation and having a party afterward. I’ll put together a playlist.

This is what my late father-in-law did and also one of his sons.

For some reason, they kept the old man's body 3+ years before returning the ashes and less than a year for his son's remains (cremains) as they are called to be returned.

They pick up the body and transport it to the Medical School, use it as they see fit, cremate it and return the ashes to the family when done.

The donor themselves has to make those arrangements beforehand is how I understand it.

They do inter cremated remains in a burial container in the ground My Godfather (Paran) opted for this and is in the ground next to his better half.

Disposal of cremated remains is legal in all 50 states, but some states have specific laws concerning it and it can vary by state.

Cremation. There is a cemetery close by to us, which is also by Oak Mountain State Park, that has a cremation garden overlooking a large pond. I told my wife to burn me up, put the urn in a hole, and put a bench on my little spot overlooking the water.

I have strict instructions to be embalmed and stuffed. Ive considered this pose but like the chair sitting in the corner of my bedroom style as well.

Funerals are for the living, not the dead.
I told my wife I prefer cremation and scatter my ashes, but I understand the tremendous amount of closure gained from a visitation and formal funeral. It's also not fair to have a family-only event because many other people deserve closure as well.

Cremation.

My instructions to my family -

1. No funeral, no viewing
2. No obituary in the paper
2. Cremate me
3. Put me in a very cheap container.
(Just saved 10 to 15 grand)
4. If you feel like you need a bunch of casseroles, have a meet and greet at the house.
5. When the wife and all four kids can get together, dump my ashes in one of two places
a) a mountain stream
b) the ocean

Have a nice vacation while you are there.
