One of my uncles died long before cremation became a normal part of handling a body. He had 4 sons and treated me like one of his own after my dad, his brother, died when I was 8.
Before the casket was closed for the final time we placed little things in there with him. One cousin put a small bottle of his favorite liquor, one put a pack of his favorite cigarettes and I put a Royal Straight Flush. He liked his beer, cigarettes and the occasional game of poker so it seemed fitting.
The people that mattered understood our intentions. The ones that didn't could go pound sand.

Give my body to science and then cremate me when they're done. I'm not using my body anymore, and I feel no reason to take up any additional space after I'm gone.

I think you can do a crematable casket. Your body is at the funereal (but not visible), but you get the torch afterwards.
I saw a guy do it recently, and I liked it.

Just as an aside, LSU does not allow ashes to be spread on the field in Tiger Stadium. There's a chemical-based reason but it's too far over my head.

We already have burial plots, so I guess that, but I would be fine with being cremated.

Burial - but that's mainly because I already own the rights to a space next to my Mom's grave in a small family plot along with my grandmother and other close relatives. It's either I go in that space or some random stranger does.

I choose cremation and have ashes spread about because when the Muslims take over they're going to dig up all of the Christian bodies and defile them.

Well, actually the running joke between my wife and I is to place a tablespoon of ashes at a time in an old douchebag and run me through a few times for old time's sake.

I paid $14,000 for dad’s funeral, plot & headstone was already purchased. If cremation is 10-15% of that number it’s still way cheaper.
Cadillac rim coffin would’ve been $5,000 more so we ditched the idea.

I am definitely being cremated.
My moms wish was to be cremated and we were hesitant but obviously respected her wishes and it turned out to be a nice coping mechanism.
My 18 year old nephew passed not long after and we cremated him as well.
We take their ashes every tie we go somewhere and spread their ashes. Mark the GPS coordinates. We're sad they aren't with us on these trips but it is some nice bonding for the family.
Some people never move from a town because they don't want to be away from their burried family member. And that's understandable. But I don't want that to be me or my family when I pass.

The wife and I both agreed to get cremated when we die. Cheaper and easier.
I get people gathering to celebrate or morn someone’s life, but having a box with a dead body sitting there always seemed very odd to me.

Interesting. Didn't realize that was a thing much less the most popular. Just assumed most people, like us, cremated so you could take the ashes with you. Or to save cost obviously.
