This was a problem in our office 25ish years ago. We had two or three out of 7 employees that would routinely come in late. They went to a Kronos punch clock 15 years ago and that issue magically disappeared. That right there should tell all of us that this mentality is solely a narcissistic behavior. They were fine with it until it inconvenienced THEM.

My brother in law was just fired because of a sarcastic comment followed by a group email (which the boss was tagged in) directed at the incompetent leadership. He’s also 53 and has been with the same company for 28ish years.

My dog is triggered by the audible notification my phone gets when the kids drive up. She knows that noise is followed by people a minute afterwards.
