That's fair. Like others have said, I'd look for something that programmable and ideally had a grinder for whole beans in that price range. I have hundreds of dollars of coffee making gear and even then you can't really beat the convenience of a quick drip brew when you're in a hurry.

I like my Keurig but the pods get expensive. Roughly 50 cents each..

old school percolator

This is the correct answer - percolated coffee tastes considerably better (smoother, "sweeter") and the aroma is a real bonus.

Buy some reusable K-Cups on Amazon and then just add your own coffee.

I've been doing that for years. Saves me money, and I get fresh ground coffee in my K-Cup every morning.

Congrats. But that Colletti Bozeman is under 40 bucks and can make coffee even when you have no electricity.

And the taste and smell is top notch. Best 40 bucks you can spend on a coffee maker.

If you just want a drip coffee maker, I'd stick to the known brands - Bunn, Mr Coffee, maybe Black & Decker or CuisinArt.

Also, you could probably de-scale your current one and it'll get hot again. Unless you just want a new one.

I have had a Cuisinart w/grinder and love it. I have had it for over 10 yrs (used every day) and it has served me well but Cuisinart may have discontinued it as I can't find it online- although it looks like they do have similar replacement models, like the one pictured below ($130 on Amazon. I highly suggest getting one with a stainless carafe instead of glass.

Agree. I use this one.

It's very fast and makes a good, hot cup of coffee. The carafe is insulated, so it stays hot that way instead of sitting on a warmer.

I might get down voted but any drip coffee maker is going to function essentially the same way, whether it's Mr. Coffee or some top of the line machine. You're paying for gimmicks

Getting a machine that ensures water temperature in the ballpark of ideal extraction isn't really a gimmick IMO

Now a decent 100 buck machine may be pretty equivalent to 200 dollar SCA certified machine. But the difference between both and some 20 dollar Mr. Coffee is going to be noticeable to anyone who enjoys good coffee.

I bought an old percolator like this and love it, beats any drip maker I've had.

I would go with something like this. I love the smell of fresh beans being ground almost as much as the taste of the coffee. A drip machine is a drip machine as far as flavor.

I'm all about percolators but stainless steel is much better than glass.

Colletti Bozeman with about 4500 reviews on Amazon for under 40 bucks is the way to go.

I've got a Breville that grinds and brews, makes great coffee. I'm sure you can make just as good or better with a cheap machine, but you'll need a grinder.

I don't get overly technical with coffee but decent quality, freshly ground beans makes a huge difference in taste.

I just bought a Jura. The machine we have now you have to remove the entire basket that holds the filter, clean it thoroughly after you dump the filter because the chute will be coated in grounds, and then clean the pot every time you use it. With the Jura if she wants a cup in the afternoon she can just hit the button and have a single cup of coffee.

I figure its a win for me because right now she'll make 8 cups of coffee every time she turns it on, burn up $20-30 worth of beans a week and throw half of it away. The Jura will grind just the amount needed for one cup.

Our friends have a built-in thermador and another has a Jura. Both seem to make a solid cup of coffee and a good espresso with no waste and little hassle.

Aeropress for weekends and Nespresso Vertuoline in my office. I also have a commercial Bunn drip coffee maker I picked up for $10 in a yard sale that was very lightly used. Looking for a similar Bunn G1 HD coffee grinder now.
