ETA: Reportedly 2 of the families supported the plea deal.
I get the anger about not being able to watch him fry, but I fall more in line with this line of thinking. This plea: 1) guarantees that no rogue juror or appeals process can keep him from being removed from society forever; 2) saves tons of money and resources on trials, appeals, etc.; and 3) keeps the world from having to relive the crimes through the trial process. I think the DA has a duty to the public first and this is better for the public as a whole.
