Vatican reaffirms 'grave sin' of Freemasonry, says Catholics cannot join the world's largest secret society
The Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) has reaffirmed the Catholic Church's teachings that laity or clerics participating in Freemasonry are in "a state of grave sin."
The DDF released the Nov. 13 document to the public with the signatures of Pope Francis and the DDF Prefect Cardinal Victor Fernández, urging the faithful not to participate in or affiliate with Freemasonry groups.
"On the doctrinal level, it should be remembered that active membership in Freemasonry by a member of the faithful is forbidden because of the irreconcilability between Catholic doctrine and Freemasonry," the document reads, citing the 1983 "Declaration on Masonic Associations" by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who would go on to become Pope Benedict XVI.
Freemasonry, the world's largest secret society with millions of members scattered across almost every country in the world, established its first Grand Lodge in England in 1717.
The society swears oaths of secrecy, fellowship and fraternity among members and has accumulated a vast catalog of rituals, ceremonial attire and secret signals between masons. These aesthetic affectations often use Christian imagery despite being used for non-Christian rituals.

WYHI?
A 24-year-old social worker in Ohio who is charged with having sex with a 13-year-old boy she was assigned to counsel, now faces additional charges for allegedly trying to intimidate the boy’s family.
During the hearing, prosecutors said Shires showed up at the 13-year-old boy’s home, with a gun.
While there, she threatened to kill herself, the station reported, and blamed the family for "ruining her life."
On Oct. 6, Payton was arrested without incident and admitted to a sexual relationship during a three-way call between Shires, the boy’s mother and police, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Sheriff's deputies responding to reports of a California second-grade teacher who allegedly drove to school drunk said they saw her visibly impaired while teaching students Monday morning.
Wendy Munson, 57, was charged with driving with a blood alcohol content of over .08 percent, drunk driving with alcohol, and child abuse with the possibility of great bodily injury, according to a Sutter County Sheriff's Department press release.
A fellow staff member at Nuestro Elementary School in Live Oak reportedly contacted police, who said Munson was in the middle of teaching students when they confronted her.
After failing a sobriety test, she was arrested around 8:20 a.m., police said. Her bond has been set at $5,000, according to the Sutter County Jail inmate roster.
Munson's blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit almost two hours after the first contact with deputies, according to the release.

'Meatball’s' lawyer blames race, unloads on cops, media after arrest for looting

It is racist to hold people accountable for their actions now

The lawyer for a Philadelphia looter known as "Meatball" who livestreamed herself following a mob breaking into stores says criticism of her client is racist.
Dayjia Blackwell, 21, filmed and followed a mob of looters as they broke into a series of stores last week, including at least an Apple store and a Lululemon. Blackwell broadcasted the incident to her 181,000 followers on Instagram, and police arrested her for encouraging the incident.
"It sickens me to witness the media's complicity in what can only be described as an all-out assault on black and brown people, as their character and actions are mercilessly vilified," Blackwell's lawyer, Jessica Mann, wrote on Friday, going on to accuse police of posting Blackwell's mugshot "with tears streaming down her face and her hair a mess to satisfy your need to get ‘clicks’ and to sell a salacious story."
