re: Judge reinstated in Madison Brooks rape case-Trial in November
Posted by JDPndahizzy on 6/30/26 at 10:06 am to F1y0n7h3W4LL
Trial for man accused in Madison Brooks rape case reset for November.
A bench trial for Casen Carver, one of the men accused of raping LSU student Madison Brooks, has been reset for Nov. 16, a judge ruled Monday.
Carver’s bench trial had been scheduled to begin Aug. 3 before Judge Fred Crifasi, but that date has been removed from the calendar. After months of legal disputes over which judge would preside, the case remains with Judge Gail Ray.
Just last week, the Louisiana Supreme Court denied prosecutors’ request for a rehearing after they sought to have Judge Ray removed from the case. Prosecutors argued she may not be impartial because she previously heard evidence during pretrial proceedings. They also cited messages they said were sent by Carver’s father claiming Judge Ray would rule in his son’s favor.
The state’s request was denied, and Judge Ray will continue to preside over the case.

Is this about the loose woman who got hit by a car?
The board is split on that opinion.. Probably same as a jury would be.

The legislation doesn't have anything to do with jury trials. It has to do with bench trials, and there is not and never has been a right to a bench trial.
You sound like you know a little about these things. Couple questions if ya don't mind.
Can a defendant waive jury trial for a bench trial?
Does it depend on the crime?
Does DA have to agree?

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana’s highest court has ruled that state prosecutors failed to prove why 19th Judicial District Judge Gail Horne Ray should not preside over a high-profile rape case.
Ray’s colleague in the district court, Brad Myers, previously sided with prosecutors who expressed concerns about Ray’s impartiality in the rape case against Casen Carver.
Carver is facing a rape charge for being present in the car in which the victim, Madison Brooks, was allegedly sexually assaulted. Carver is not accused of sexually assaulting Brooks.
Prosecutors allege that Carver and his co-defendants dropped Brooks off along Burbank Drive at her request after the alleged assault. She was later struck by a vehicle and died.
quote:
Carver requested a bench trial instead of a jury trial, which would make Ray the sole arbiter of his fate.
State prosecutors alleged that Ray’s prior knowledge of certain evidence tied to the case would compromise her ability to make unbiased decisions regarding its admissibility.
During the initial recusal hearing, prosecutors also highlighted a text message that seemed to suggest one of Carver’s family members may have had a friendly relationship with the judge.
Judge Myers did not specifically take issue with Ray’s handling of the case, but said public confidence in her handling necessitated her recusal.
quote:
The First Circuit Court of Appeals later affirmed Myers’ decision.
It is unclear how soon the case could be kicked back to Ray’s court.

I normally think a docuseries is too long and could've been done in fewer episodes.. This show needed a few more episodes. WOW!!
That bitch was crazy. I'm on team, "someone shoulda threw that bitch on the ground and took off her clothes" to prove that she was not preggo. No way that web of lies exist in most families.
Hippa or no Hippa, someone could've went to the cops... It would've saved 2 lives.

If you're old enough to remember, the casino money was supposed to be dedicated to roads and teachers. We have the worst of both. Stop taxing the working class. People are fed up.

Saw it a while back.. It's a good, fun movie with no trannies, political statements, trump references, etc.... It is what it is.. I'd prolly save my 50 bucks and wait til it comes out on a streaming service if it hasn't already..
Pretty cool twist at the end though..,

CWD and Deer Farming- Meeting moved to April 8th
Posted by JDPndahizzy on 4/1/26 at 10:23 am
Apparently there's a meeting that's been rescheduled from today to April 8th. I couldn't find much on LDWF website but found out a little information from Whitetails of Louisiana below. Apparently the LDWF is trying to take over regulating deer farming from the AG department. I don't have a dog in this race but was interested in what you guys thought. Obviously the deer pen folks are upset.
What side of the fence are you on?
From Whitetails of LA-
The CWD Task Force meeting that was scheduled for April 1, 2026 has been moved to April 8, 2026 @ 1:30pm in the committee room 3 at the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, LA. This meeting will include voting on recommendations from LDWF and LWF that will hinder how we farm. We as an industry need to show up in force.
