re: Do you still use a road atlas?

Posted by ldts on 11/10/25 at 5:51 pm to
I still use an atlas. I have the Rand McNally 50 state atlas and a state road map in the car. When I go on a road trip, I usually look and map out a route before I leave, then keep the atlas as a reference to see where I'm at. It's also helpful if something comes up and I need to adjust the route.

I bought a new one a year ago after spilling a drink on my old one. The new one isn't spiral bound and I don't like that. Would like to find a spiral bound one again.

My dad passed from it. Just awful. He couldn’t remember who I was. Talk about gut wrenching…

My dad did too. He remembered who I was, though, until the end. He was always mixed up about where he was and what he was doing. I figured it was his mind scrambling reality with memories. I always went along with it trying to figure out where in the past his mind was. There was something morbidly fascinating about it.

I could certainly understand this fellow in the article doing this. I would strongly consider it myself in the same circumstances.
I saw a doctor about a month ago. Charged $600 to talk for 10 minutes. He didn't have to test anything, didn't have to diagnose anything, just discuss a couple options.

Cities like Austin, Charlotte, and Nashville are unrecognizable from 25 years ago. I grew up in Nashville and live here once again, and its a completely different place from when I left in 2003. Some good. Some bad. All in all, its a decent t place to raise a family and own a business. Id imagine Charlotte is the same.

I grew up near Charlotte. It was a good place then, but all the yankees have ruined it.
Hate to see it, it'll ruin them after they've been loaded up with debt and every penny wrung out of them.

I have a memory of eating french toast there one day with my parents. No special occasion just a random Saturday morning. I don't know why that sticks out, guess because we rarely ate like that on Saturdays. Anyway, I like to stop there every so often because of that. They've been pretty mediocre for a while now.

Exactly. They start advertising they gave the school tens of millions of dollars to fire a coach, they'll start having all kinds of people hassling them for money.
There used to be a buffet in Mooresville NC called Fat Boys that was probably the best buffet I ever ate at. It was like having a buffet at grandmaw's house.

That’s actually kinda hilarious

I agree.

It's so over the top it has a real satirical feel to it.
I take my lunch to work everyday. I have a lunch bag I put an ice pack in to keep my food cool until I eat. Costs too much to go eat anywhere anymore. Plus get to eat healthier.

Same here. I started wearing them When I had cataracts. I couldn't see to drive without them. After surgery, the doctor told me to wear some 100% uv blocking sunglasses while recovering, plus was sensitive to bright lights.

Also the category names can give a clue as to what they're looking for.
While it's a tv show, not a movie, I've had a few Vietnam vets tell me that Tour of Duty was a pretty good representation of how things were there.

re: Are mattress toppers worth it?

Posted by ldts on 10/5/25 at 6:43 am to
Depends on your mattress and what topper. A topper isn't going to help a mattress that doesn't support you well, but it can help soften a mattress that may be a bit firm for you.

bought a "cooling" topper

Most mattresses or toppers that are made of foam that advertise themselves as cooling is snake oil. There's just so much you can do to reduce the heat in foam, especially memory foam. The latex toppers, though, are suppossed to be better. It feels very different thought.
