more "small" government. Are there really THAT many dead beat dads leaving the country permanently over child support? Of course not. But it's another method of government control over the citizens.

The deadbeat parents lost that control when they broke the law by failing to pay child support. If they can afford a passport and international travel, they can afford additional payments to their children.

it seems like that would be really easy for the credit card company to prove they were lying though

Still costs the CC company to review the claim, even if it isn't awarded.

I hate seeing those empty chairs and tarps without people.

Correct. I don't mind the "tailgate" setups especially for the longer days. But those that go drop their stuff and saunter out 15-30 min before the parade shouldn't expect the same treatment. If you're out there with a big setup it should be for family and friends to make a day out of it. Assembled 3-4 hours before the parades and taken down each night completely following.

I know the tents are "banned" but at minimum NOPD needs to have them situated no closer to the street than on the uptown-bound tracks.

St. George Dragons

Just sent Aloysius to the losers bracket in Mercy tourney.

George vs. Catholic tomorrow night for the Marquette rings.

Jude with another tough win over Dunham. Mercy hung with Theresa and had a chance to send to OT.

Absolute chaos in CSAA

This in BR or Northshore?
Pretty solid. I’d swap Theresa and CHS. Theresa plays hard every game. CHS can be flaky

I honestly don't give a shite about what obscenely wealthy people pay for their private jets. Do you?

13,000 people and their families in Savannah, GA do, for sure.

"I'm going to charge Canada a 50% tariff on any and all Aircraft sold into the United States of America"

He still doesn't understand how tariffs work does he? The company buying the aircraft would pay the tariff....

The issue here is that the Canadian Government has often had its hand in their aviation manufacturing. Currently, Quebec owns 25% of the Airbus a220 (formerly Bombardier CSeries)

Its obvious that Canada is denying Gulfstream certification to pull folks to their manufactured aircraft made by Bombardier.

Nepotism isn't unique to Louisiana. What is unique is the high proportion of residents that were born in the state and remain. Further concentrates this.

Kids won't enjoy or remember the trip when they are older.

You're right. So they should just stay home and do nothing.

OP - our oldest is 9 and has been to 18 National Parks. The first one being Glacier at 10 months old. It's now disappointing when she finds out our vacation is not to a new park. We did Yellowstone and Teton's a few years ago with 3 kids 7 and under. Great parks to bring them, IMO.

I'd stay in Gardner/Livingston, then a day or two in the park (Headwaters Lodge is a great spot between the parks), and then finish out with Jackson.

Put some of the money for a new arena

What money?

You should check out Cameron Indoor Stadium if you think PMAC is dated !

You're comparing one of the 5 most iconic venues in college basketball that is aesthetically similar to the rest of their campus to a multi-purpose arena built in the 1970's. And the primary tenant of said iconic venue has 5 national titles. Not to mention, Cameron has seen renovations through the years.

This would be like Vanderbilt's fans arguing against its recent renovation because Tiger Stadium is older & more outdated than First Bank Stadium.
quote:

Then tear down the PMAC and build a new one in the same location.

LSU doesn't have $400 million to do so.

Texas did it with the Erwin Center.

They did not. Moody Center was built a block away from Erwin.

Basketball can play in the Cow Palace again for a few seasons.

The URec Courts would be more suitable than the Ag Coliseum.

But you say Helo was complacent?

Yes. Complacent in that the lights of the arriving planes were stacked on approach to Runway 1. They even mention it in their comms.
quote:

So, ATC "swung" what?

Not a pilot, but a novice, aviation nerd… If I remember correctly, the regional jet was on approach to land runway 1. Ground traffic or a slow departing aircraft had ATC adjust their arrival to 33 at the same time the helicopter was maneuvering around the park (when they lost sight)
quote:

So, what's the disconnect here?

Planes arriving over Potomac are typically approaching Runway 1. They swung the Regional Jet out to Runway 33 at the same time the helo was maneuvering around East Potomac Park and they lost visual.

Helo got complacent
quote:

They need to build a new PMAC on track and field facilities. It will be next to all practice facilities. Make it well enough to attract top concerts that generate new revenue.

Was told that was option 1 but was too costly to build new T&F facility. And less acreage for Oak View to develop/generate revenue
quote:

Why not? Neville arena was built for under 90.

At this point you’ve got to be trolling. Construction on Neville (Auburn) Arena broke ground 18 years ago.
quote:

I’m only worried about LSU basketball. If you want to increase our home court advantage building a big event center is not the way to go about that.

There’s been no indication from LSU or Oak View that this would be a “big event center”. More of the opposite, a 8,500 - 10,000 seat arena with ample club/suite/floor seating options.
quote:

This is apparently a hot take in Baton Rouge, but I agree. Invest in a high quality renovation to address the things that are heavily complained about. Widen the sitting areas (I'm fine with paying a little more for tickets if the capacity is lower), improve the bathrooms, and fix the roof/ceiling.

The dilemma with this option is that LSU doesn't have the cash to do this. So if you proceed, it'll need to bonded out or come from donated funds. Bonding out a non-revenue generating renovation would be a terrible move so LSU would need to add more premium options.

quote:

We can spend significantly less this way and satisfy most people.

This is why LSU went the private developer route. LSU has land and a viable product. The developer has access to capital that LSU doesn't have currently.
quote:

I said 40-70

You said 10% of $400 million. Then $50-70m. Then $40-50m.

quote:

and the renovations for Bama are not strictly roster/player based

Did you look at the link? It is entirely a practice facility expansion.

quote:

So you’re misrepresenting things to make your argument.

Seems like you're the one doing that when I've provided actual, comparable renovation costs that were all in your proposed range - but completed before NIL and pre-Covid construction inflation costs.

quote:

look at the money Houston spent on their arena

$60 million in 2018 (pre Covid and pre NIL/Revenue Share). With 1/3rd underwritten by one donor.

quote:

Bama was going to build a $183million dollar arena

Announced in 2022 and then construction costs continued to increase as well.

quote:

but settled on upgrades for just under $60mil

Practice Facility. No improvements to fan experience.

quote:

when in reality you can do a complete makeover for the PMAC for $50-70mil easily.

If $70 million was the PMAC renovation cost, I'd imagine we'd already completed it. This is also nearly double your 10% guarantee.
quote:

It would cost a 10th of what was proposed.

GaTech renovated McCamish (a very similar arena to the PMAC in age/design) 14 years ago at more than 10% of what the new arena cost is being proposed.

And the O'Connell Center at UF (even more similar to PMAC) was renovated 10 years ago for over $60 million.

You're looking at $100+ million in 2026 for a PMAC reno

Something I have always wondered…for other sports as well

Yes. It depends on the sport but for the "major" sports LSU will deadhead bus(es). They do this for a variety of reasons.

- Gives the team the ability to transport additional equipment vs. as cargo (added fuel cost) for the charter flight.
- They have a relationship with the driver/company that gives the teams flexibility in transport times & schedules. This also adds in the trust factor that they'll be available and ready.
- Provides flexibility to LSU in the event there are flight issues and they can bus to another airport or back to BR.
quote:

do we send a bus all the way up there just to take players from the airport to the hotel and arena?

Yes. Cheaper and avoid any nefarious activities from local companies. Very common among all major programs when possible.

Sales tax is the worst kind of taxation

By worst you mean best?

If the information from the commercial airlines is accurate, seems like bad fluid (is that even a thing), poor application, or massive decrease in conditions in minutes.
There seems to be some confusion between FAA/NTSB and the Bangor Airport.

FAA is reporting 8 on the plane with one survivor. Bangor airport is reporting 6 on plane and 6 deceased.

THE college baseball program only gets $500k and other universities are pumping in $3m of the split?

Those universities have the same WBB problem. They just choose to let it whither like it should.

This is nuts.

This is also because LSU Baseball's traditional NIL deals are far stronger. They have also put all 35 roster spots on full-scholarship. And other schools are going to have to spend more to compete with the prestige of LSU Baseball.

I'd imagine as the Mulkey era winds down over the next few years and Baseball continues it's success, you'll see these numbers shift.

An interesting comparison would be Nebraska volleyball. They are revenue positive for the university, but like LSU baseball are very unique in that regard.
