Sure was nice when a loss or two meant you knocked them out of the playoffs.

Watching a couple of podcasts. They are saying that ALL P4 teams will be required to play 10 P4 schools as part of their schedule. No more B1G teams dropping P4 OOC games.

The good news is we won't see many players sitting out the post season. That was always frustrating.

Notre Dame and Ohio State will have cake walks to the playoffs every season.

They should rest their starters in the big games to make sure no one gets injured before the playoffs. Will now take 4 loses to keep them out.

Dang, why so soon?

Sucks LSU won't get a chance to win one in the current format. They won at least one in each prior format.

So is it done?

The X post still says it’s pending approval.

Last year’s LSU football team would not have made a 24 team playoff.

Just stating, before everyone goes on a rampage about things:

This was always coming, and it's honestly the best current option.

MAJOR colleges always wanted to be "bowl eligible", to get the extra weeks of practice in. Didn't matter if you were looking at the Independence vs the Fiesta... if you won the SEC you went to the Sugar. Every other bowl bid was "not for a championship". But you still wanted to get into a bowl, to get those extra weeks.
Many coaches used to say going from no bowl to any bowl was a bigger step, then going from random bowl to elite status. The practices made the difference.

The bowls are going away. The playoffs have killed them. The top bowls are simply glorified playoff sites now, instead of SEC to Sugar, Big 10 & Pac 10 to Rose, Big 12 to Orange, SWC to Cotton etc. Some of those conferences are gone completely, most no longer have the tie-in. This is different from "conferences get bowl tie-ins" like where SEC 3 goes to Citrus etc. The conference champs are in the playoffs now.

Players not in the playoffs are opting out of bowls, to where the team is unrecognizable. I'm not paying to go to, say, Orlando for a bowl game, to watch Husan Longstreet start at QB and hand off to Stacey Gage. We've seen that with LSU the past few bowls, one year we had a WR starting at QB.

A playoff bid actually does address that. 24 teams making it mean 24 teams getting extra practices for at least 1 round, and your top players will play. So you don't think you have a chance; the guys who return next year have that experience to build on. Indiana made the playoffs in 24 and lost in the first round, they won it all the next season.

And honestly, there WILL be upsets. Texas was 9-3 last year, didn't make the playoffs. I'm comfortable saying they could have made a pretty deep run. They could have beat anyone. LSU way back in the day, in 2001, went 8-3 and only made the SEC championship because the West was weak. But that wasn't a normal 8-3 team by the end of the year, they beat #2 Tennessee pretty soundly in Atlanta and rolled #8 Illinois in the Sugar. Nobody would really have wanted them in their bracket. There were, and will be other teams like that, lost some midseason games, but get shite locked in by the end of the year.

I preferred the old bowl system, and the old conferences I knew in the 80's. That's gone. Time to drop the Pinstripe and Belk bowls and let teams play for something.

that is exactly what they will do. just like........tadah..........NFL!

they will rest them on the back end of the season if they can afford to. unless their is some record to break. this will really water down the regular season.

Here come all the comments about how it’s going to devalue the regular season greatly

It objectively will. Maybe you’re fine with that and maybe college football fans as a whole are fine with that, but regular season games will objectively be less meaningful if 3 and 4 loss teams can get in.

Bozos on sports talk shows are now preaching the SEC and B10 should play each other in Week 1 now. Why would you want a possible loss when 3 losses will get you in the playoff in the SEC now.

Actually its going to help the sec. Now you can lose 3 games and get in. So, with the 24 team playoff it gives the sec more chance to get in.

CFB, the greatest sporting spectacle in the country's history, has officially been destroyed. A bloated minor league professional playoff featuring a rotating cast of overpaid primadonna mercenaries. Super.
