That’s potentially a 17 games season for a 9-24 seed who makes it to the championship game. 16 for a 1-8 seed. Absurd for college. Teams are already banged up, this could get ugly and lead to draft eligible players sitting out.

Do some of you not realize that Div 2, or FCS, or whatever it's called now, has been doing this for quite some time. And it's actually pretty solid.

I don’t mind it. I think it’s ok for teams to stumble early in the season and not have their title hopes over before Halloween. Teams should be allowed to improve.

I also don’t think it’ll impact big regular season games that much. College football has enough bullshite/history to keep matchups interesting.

This won’t be “the best teams in college football” competing. It is going to be a lot of mid major bowl teams just there to generate space for TV and ad revenue.

That is 100% completely made up by you, just to try to make your point. You don't know that this will be the case AT ALL, yet you are assuming it because it pushes your narrative forward.

Teams 13-24 will be made up of teams that used to make up the mid major bowls. That is not a narrative lol

If you are arguing that teams that are ranked in the back half of the top 25 are going to consistently “bring incredible match ups” and be able to make runs into the final rounds or win it all, that’s your opinion.

It’s also much more of a narrative than my feeling that that would be a rare exception if it ever happens at all.

This will certainly take the juice out of watching non-LSU games. Watching the Texas game because maybe they'll get upset? That use to be interesting, but if they lose, they'd still likely get 2 more mulligans. At some point having too many teams does start to take the juice out of the regular season. Of course, fans of their own teams will still watch, but interest in the broader sport will decline IMO.

Should max it out at 16 like FCS.

Just for the sake of argument, let's use the current AP Top 25.

#24 SMU @ #9 Ole Miss - Winner @ #8 BYU
#23 Boise St @ #10 TT - Winner @ #7 - Texas
#22 LSU @ #11 Utah - Winner @#6 Alabama
#21 Wake Forest @#12 UCLA - Winner @#5 Indiana
#20 Houston @ #13 Mizzou - Winner @ #4 Ohio St.
#19 USC @ #14 Tennessee - Winner @ # 3 Miami
#18 Okie St @ #15 Kentucky - Winner @ #2 ND
#17 Iowa @ #16 Miss St - Winner @ #1 UGA

Explain to me what about this seems terrible.

Other than the fact that this first round is completely pointless? No one can objectively look at any team below #12 there and say they belong in the discussion of the best team in the country.

I don’t know why yall are being so dramatic over this.

It doesn’t take much research to know that in the last 3 seasons the final top 24 has had 3 4 loss teams in 2025 and 2024 and 8 4 loss team in 2023. And I’m sure a few of the 4th losses were in bowl games.

So in reality we are still talking the majority of teams getting in are only 3 loss or less teams. Yes I realize not all schedules are created equal.

You can ague about too many games or player safety and what not. But as far as competition. We are not getting anywhere close to really bad teams with 24.

On top of that there is absolutely nobody that likes bowl games outside the playoffs anymore. They are a complete joke. More teams playing actual playoffs games is good.

It’s dumb but how many of you would be happy knowing LSU still has a good chance of making the playoffs this year, including a potential extra home game against a good opponent?

Watch coaches make the playoffs 3 years in a row, but get fired for going 0-1 three years in a row in the playoffs. Clown world.

It’s true though. You think LSU-Ole Miss this year would have meant even 1% less to those fans with 100 team playoff?

That’s fair.

But just because a team isn’t “really bad” doesn’t mean they should be in the discussion or competition for the best team of the year.

A good number of those three loss teams probably lost to the only three ranked teams they played.

Look at their records to see how they fared against top 10 or 12 teams and the percentages probably aren’t great.

Someone said earlier wouldn’t it be nice if LSU still had a chance to be in the playoffs at 9-3. If we lose another game I wouldn’t feel like we really had a gripe for not being in a playoff field. We could still have a really good and fun season, but I wouldn’t be up in arms saying we “deserved” a shot win it all.

The 2001 season is one of my favorites of all time. I’m convinced the only team that would have had a shot to beat that team in January was Miami. But I don’t see it as some huge injustice that we didn’t get to see it. The Sugar Bowl was fricking awesome and I’m glad we have that memory.

Hell, the 2005 Peach Bowl is my favorite bowl game experience and that was a 2 loss team. But I still don’t think we got hosed. USC and UT were the two best teams that year. They earned the chance to play for it and it’s considered the best game in CFB history by many, and I loved every second of it.

That is certainly an opinion.

I loved the Houston bowl against Tech in 2015, the Fiesta Bowl against UCF in 2018, and beating Purdue, Wisconsin, and Baylor the past few years.

The losses to K State and Houston sucked, but that’s because when you have coaching changes you’re missing half a roster so it doesn’t feel like part of the season. But that’s the exception imo.

Just because an Alabama fan didn’t want to watch Burrow carve up UCF doesn’t mean the game was “a complete joke” and shouldn’t have been played.

I don’t make time to watch any games other than LSU these days but that’s doesn’t dictate how important those games are or whether they are meaningless.

Bowls are part of college football and expanding the playoff is going to cheapen, or even possibly take away, that part of the experience for 40 programs even more than it already has when they went to 12.

In my opinion that sucks, and that’s more valid than your false claim that “absolutely nobody” likes bowl games, because you are just wrong.

That particular game? Yeah that one would have kept the juice

LSU State at 11 am, might not be the same draw knowing that all ranked teams will be in the playoff

That’s just imo, but I guess we’re going to find out

Everybody gets a trophy for making the playoffs. There will be teams with three or more losses in this money grab.

I just laugh now, looking back, when for years we heard again and again, "You just can't do a playoff in college football, it interferes with the students finals exams, and it's just not in the spirit of college football"
that excuse was always a joke, because the NCAA had playoffs for FCS, Div II, Div III forever and those playoffs were 16, 20, 24, or 32 teams.

The "student athlete" excuse was always nonsense.
