re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets

Both will be competing for a position at 2B

That's a novel idea. We haven't seen competition at LSU at 2nd base in 3 years.

Competition was absent at quite a few positions in 2017. We saw no signs of holding bad play accountable at 2nd, SS or 3rd this season. With the attitude that certain players are going to play no matter what, we see no push or desire for those players to get better. We were AWFUL on the infield this season and made not one single attempt or adjustment to give any opportunity or put any pressure on these "starters" to get better.

Serrett needs real competition to lift her game. She regressed and did not have a good year in 2017. But, she knows she is sharpie markered in no matter what.

3rd base play was horrendous and thank the good lord we will have a new 2nd basemen. What's the theme? Both 3rd and 2nd knew they were playing regardless and they never got better. Lack of competition ensures mediocrity and we have seen alot of that at certain positions over the last few seasons.

If the staff doesn't force players to win jobs and just hands them out like we saw this season then 2018 is going to be a long year.

We are fortunate that we have had All American caliber pitching to cover up severe deficiencies. On top of that we had Landry and Jaquish, now they are gone and no one currently on the roster is remotely close to the level either of those two All Americans were.

Let the competition begin (hopefully)!!

I agree Serrett went backwards this past year, although I think she is far from horrible. She had a few games at the end of the season with multiple errors, it was bad.

My biggest question mark also is making adjustments with some of our hitters. Mechanically we need to adjust quite a few of their swings. Work on attacking outside pitches better, hopefully we will see more consistency at the plate. The talent is there to make a big run even with the losses of Landry and Jaquish

I guess no one ever did figure out that second commitment we picked up a few days ago.

Agree, don't think it is a talent question. It's a development and philosophy question. Doyle and Springfield did not get better as the year went, Cunningham was given no shot to even try to prepare for her sophomore season and of course Dawson was a complete and total waste of a top talent. Andrews is the only newcomer that showed any signs of elevating her game.

If we can ever develop outside of the circle like we have inside of the circle, NC's are a real possibility.

I agree 100 percent with Ashlyn on the lack of competition and automatic entries into the line up with no pressure to perform. It was more apparent than ever this season and makes zero sense that it can happen on this level.

Serrett has some ability and a big arm. The other two seemed to be a complete waste of 130+ combine starts with the added expense of losing what little solid depth we had. Now we have to rely on transfers with zero SEC experience to fill in. Hard to figure out.

Coaches running this thread or nah?

Makes no sense that this occurred at this level of sport. The program will pay for it this year, but more so next when the 2 AA pitchers are gone imo.

re: Official LSU Softball Recruiting Thread: Commits & Targets
I think Doyle and Springfield are much better than what their numbers showed. Springfield actually looked sharper towards the back part of the season, had a couple hits during regionals, including a home run in the last game to help us secure the win. Had hits in two of the three games against FSU.

Doyle straight up slumped badly and didn't bat well ever since the South Carolina series. She played with zero confidence, i think her issues were just confidence and pitch selection. Seemed like a lot of times she was just guessing.

Both I think with a little guidance this off season and playing with a little confidence next season, you'll see a night and day difference.

The Cunningham situation was a little weird, I guess we can't comment on her until we see her play next year.

Andrews was way better than mine or everyone elses expectations. Very good bat control and eye, if she can start to drive the ball into the gaps more, look out.

I will say this, as a team as a whole, even for Jaquish and Landry at times, it seemed like most were lost or out matched it seemed. I think we have a lot of players with a lot more to show than what we see, including Serrett.

It'll be interesting to see the two transfers battle it out, both do bring pop in their bats, which we needed anyways. A freshman or two usually sees the field, but it definitely seems like Sunseri and Antoine seem to be the more talented players in this class, along with Caccamise. Should be fun to see how it all works out, hopefully the competition picks up this fall. A lot to be excited about

3rd was not horrendous. I do agree she should have mixed things up, but Sanchez improve A LOT during the season. You're STILL sour about Nicky. It's time to move on.

You truly did live with your head in the sand in 2017. Sanchez was the worst player in the league and it really wasn't close. Everybody that watched this team play knew it but the staff refused to admit it. Let me break it down for you.

Only two every day players in the SEC hit for a lower BA than Sanchez. Although these two hitters had a lower average, both had more extra base hits, more HR's, more RBI's, slugged higher and had higher OBP's. To add injury to insult, Sanchez had more errors than both players combined. Sanchez just surpassed Quinn's 2016 performance as arguably the worst season in SEC history. If that is not horrendous, I'm not sure what is.

Sour? Maybe not the right word. But watching a staff mishandle and run off a National Player of the Year and Consensus All American in favor of two of the worst players in league history is certainly disappointing. I hope all parties involved grow from it and don't let such foolish decisions happen in the future.

I never take much stock in a high school award from the NFCA. Your high school coach has to be a member of the NFCA in order to receive an honor from them. Overall in my experience, only about 20% of high school coaches are members, so an All-American honor from NFCA is a very weak award.

The NFCA is built for Division 1 college coaches and is a great organization for them and their awards are usually legit.

I'm not saying that she isn't a great player, but that some of you base a player's future college success on an award that about 80% of the high school players don't qualify for.

I have a lot of friends who are Baylor softball supporters and they are very leery of the drama that some of you have started here going to Wacko with her. I'm hoping that she has a great career there and getting away from her hometown is sometimes the best thing that can happen for a player.

All the drama and criticism is not helpful....

Beth Torina must know "just a little about team management," she has taken LSU to the CWS exactly double the times of previous HC's and all of LSU SB history, Cathy Compton(0), Glen Moore(0) and Yvette Girouard (2).

Beth Torina will run this program, whether anyone likes it or not and she has 4 Softball CWS "Skins" under her belt.

I like the values surrounding LSU Softball and I do not doubt that all management is judicious, prudent and FAIR.

That's funny. If this idiotic board can impact anything in Waco or anywhere else then those people have bigger problems than all of us who post on this board.

The "drama", if there is any, is directly attributed to really questionable decisions the staff has made over the last few seasons. That is what stirs up the fan base.

Are you saying that LSU fans can invade the Baylor boards and create so much havoc that it impacts that program??? If so, I say we do it on every team's board. I'm calling BS on that one.

I also wish her the best and believe she will have great success. I agree that leaving LSU was absolutely the best decision she could have made.

Olivia Lackie?

She is the real deal, we are recruiting her I know that but I am not that she gave us a verbal commitment. She is a strikeout machine. She had a little under 400 strikeouts this past year and has really exploded onto the scene.

I think she is class of 2020

Her and Morgan Smith will be another ridiculous pitching duo

I don't know much about Nicky or any other LSU softball player for that matter.

What I do know is that we have watched bad infield defense for at least 2 years.

This year's infield defense was as bad as the boys basketball defense.

I am an LSU fan !!!!

Not a Beth fan or a Nicky fan or anyone else.

Fix the defense Beth.
Please.
