If Nussmeier stuck around for 3 more seasons at LSU, how do you think his stats would look against 20-21 year olds in 2027?
quote:

As I've said before, some of you won't be able to get past Shough's age.

As a 22 year old

As I've said before, some of you won't be able to get past Shough's age. Fine. It may be an issue. It's probably why he was available in the 2nd. But there are actual NFL analysts that like him (Riddick, McShay, and Breer off the top of my head). And Kellen Moore likes him. You guys may know better, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Plenty of young QBs have failed, let's give the old timer a shot.
quote:

Completion % vs the good defenses - ND, SMU, UM, Clemson and UK was 57.06%

Yeah, that's how season averages for QBs work - higher completion % against bad teams, lower against good ones, then you get an average for the whole season. Glad you figured that out!

Here's Nussmeier last year, notice something similar?

It's clear a lot of posters can't get past Shough's age. I get it, he's an outlier. Personally, I'm less concerned because his prolonged college career was due to freak injuries, not poor performance. Obviously some on this board don't care, and that's fine, but I'd also like to see some argument that he lacks the necessary skills to be a top QB.
quote:

There were only a few teams that needed quarterbacks and two were already picked. So there was absolutely no rush to draft him this early.
Todd McShay thinks the Rams might've drafted him later in the 2nd to succeed Matt Stafford in a year or two. Albert Breer told Ryan Rusillo that Kevin Stefanski with the Browns was a Shough guy, and they could've picked him before us in the 3rd. Trading down is a nice idea, but you have to be willing to miss out on your player.
quote:

Nuss is younger

Who cares if he's younger? Nuss will be 24 in next years draft, Shough is 25.

and has already proven more in a much better conference

Nussmeier is surrounded by NFL talent. Pat Mahomes was 5-7 in his last college season in a crap conference. Physical traits mean something.

I love Nuss and hope he's a first round pick next year, but it's not unreasonable to think a QB with better size, speed, and at least the same arm strength who didn't throw 12 INT in his "breakout" season might be a better NFL prospect.
I think the Saints brass looked at the 2026 QB crop with no Arch and decided there was no advantage to waiting. I'm an LSU fan and fully on the Nuss bus, but I'm also acutely aware that he's a 6'1" pocket passer who doesn't run and struggles to hit the deep ball. He might be the next Drew Brees, but if he was in this year's draft I probably would've preferred Tyler Shough.
Dude has a gun. Really like th play he makes at 1:55.

to find our next franchise QB, they are eventually going to have to swing for one
True, but taking a swing does not mean reaching for a questionable prospect. Even in the top half of the first round, QBs are a 50/50 bet at best. After Cam Ward, are any of the QBs this year even top 15 players? Anyone we pick in this draft is so likely to fail, it feels like throwing away a draft pick.

Am I the only one that thinks Moore wants Milroe?
Nope

Predator 2
How dare you! Busey was fire in that movie. Bill Paxton as well. Predator 2 is an underrated gem.
This is his only mock draft, based on intel from around the league. It's not selecting Williams that pisses me off, it's passing on Graham. If this happens, it's because the Saints always think they know better than the consensus. History says they don't.

re: Since 2015 the Saints….

Not to make excuses for the Saints recent drafting failures, but I think a lot of of you forget how stacked our roster was for a few seasons after the miraculous 2017 draft. There were very few rosters spots available - any draft picks after round 3 had almost no chance of making the team and a high likelihood of getting plucked from our practice squad.

We’ll sign Rodgers for a season
Not with our cap. Roger's will expect around $30 million.

Bad for the league to see kids sitting in a draft room and not be picked.
Which is why Shedeur already announced he's not going to the draft. He knows the fall is coming.
quote:

The Saints have not been nearly as successful in recent drafts. Each of the club’s last five draft classes has ranked near the bottom of the league in collective Approximate Value. Those drafts also have lacked star power, producing just two Pro Bowlers — Baun in 2024 and Erik McCoy in 2019

This is the big one:
quote:

The Saints have selected just nine starters in the seven drafts since the heralded 2017 haul.
quote:

The Saints rank second behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the overall quality of their draft production, with an average AV of 15.5 per selection, trailing only Kansas City’s 16.3. The Saints have drafted four All-Pro players in that span: Zack Baun, Ryan Ramczyk, Trey Hendrickson and Michael Thomas. That total is surpassed by only the Cowboys with five, and Chiefs, 49ers and Ravens with six each.

quote:

The Saints’ strong performance has come without the benefit of premium picks. They, along with the Green Bay Packers, are one of two teams without a top-10 pick in the last decade. By comparison, NFC South division rivals Atlanta and Carolina have had five top-10 picks apiece in that time

quote:

Since 2015, the Saints have made the fewest draft selections (62) in the NFL. By comparison, the Packers have made an NFL-high 97 selections in the same span. The Saints’ strategy of targeting players they have graded highly and positioning themselves to take them, often via trade, has helped produce the low number. The club’s historically aggressive approach to free agency also contributes to its low draft pick total. Compensatory draft picks are awarded to clubs that suffer a net loss of free agents during the prior year’s free agency period. Since the system began in 1994, the Saints have received the fewest number of compensatory picks awarded by the league.

quote:

This quality-over-quantity draft strategy gives the Saints fewer bites at the apple but also tends to yield a higher hit rate, especially on the draft's first two days. Of the 31 players selected by the Saints in Rounds 1-3, 21 developed into multiyear starters and five others — Penning, Taliese Fuaga, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Baun and Bryan Bresee — are projected to join them after the 2025 season.
