I love him. No chance to be a 1st rounder

I do not know about no chance at all. I mean, if you look at just about any list of top cb’s in the 2026 draft, Delane is on the list.

While looking at those lists I came upon yet another mock that has Delane in the first round:

21. MINNESOTA VIKINGSMinnesota Vikings Logo

Selection: Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

Delane decided to forego the NFL Draft and instead transferred to LSU. One would imagine the extra experience in the SEC will help elevate his profile and boost his resume even more.

He nearly doubled his career ball production in 2024, but will need to make sure he plays disciplined this upcoming season. If he does, he could be a sturdy answer for the Vikings' secondary.

First round or not, Delane seems to be a highly regarded cornerback in a lot of circles.

Okay I know, mock drafts are meaningless, even more so a year out. But it’s the football off-season and this is the type of content you get.

I was thinking Nuss would be the player, I could also see Harold Perkins in the conversation if he returns to his freshman year form. I was surprised to see Whitt Weeks in a 2026 first round mock, but not the pro football network one. Weeks and Perkins will both have to show they have recovered from significant injuries to stay in that conversation.

Who guessed Mansoor Delane? Winner winner, chicken dinner. Wouldn’t it be awesome if he lives up to his billing and gives us that lock down corner who let us blitz more. And they have him going at 13, pretty damn high.

From the article:[i]

13) Miami Dolphins

Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

Jalen Ramsey has been the subject of trade rumors. Kader Kohou will be a free agent in 2026. And Cam Smith has been underwhelming to this point. Jason Marshall Jr. could be a gem, but odds are, cornerback will be a major need for the Dolphins in Round 1 in 2026.

At Virginia Tech in 2024, Delane was a lockdown defender, with four INTs and seven PBUs. At 6’0", 191 pounds, he’s an incredibly fast, efficient, and fluid mover, with an elite size-speed profile and a strong playmaking imprint. He’s still improving in support, but his coverage upside may be some of the best the 2026 class has to offer.

How about when Vitello was down 6 in the top of the 7th with two outs and a man on first?

Not only was it dumbass to try to steal second when he needed more base runners, his guy gets caught stealing. Even if he got the base, it’s still a dumb risk to take. The reward of the extra base isn’t worth the risk of the out for a run that was near meaningless to the outcome.

Best LSU batting stance:

Derek Curiel and it ain’t even close.
I am 100% against the federal government asserting any governance over college athletics. Even if the NCAA is doing a bad job, it’s not the govt’s business. Keep politics and govt out of sports.
If at the beginning of the season you told me that LSU would be 10-2 after four series and be in 4th place overall in the SEC, I would have not believed you.

Sec baseball is gonna be a dogfight down the stretch. LSU looks built for the fight.

Mason Katz was a 1st team all SEC player , 2nd team All American(2013), 2nd team all SEC (2012, 2011).

Dude, you sure like to pick a lot. Mason is a great kid, our families have been good friends forever. His grandfather, Hippo, was a very close friend of mine. Hippo loved to talk about Mason.

I was not saying Pearson has achieved as much as Mason, just observing that they are similar in that neither have a natural position on the field and that both are clutch hitters. In the end I think Mason was playing first base, having played outfield and second base, just like Pearson.

Katz was a gritty player too, as is Pearson.

Gritty player. A tough out. A clutch hitter. A player without a natural position in the field. Do these qualities not apply to both players?
Pearson reminds me of Mason Katz. He has no natural place to play in the field, but he can hit a baseball. He is a clutch hitter and a tough out. If LSU ever needs two out hit, to win or stay in the game, Pearson would be on the short list of players you would want at the plate.

Yikes. The wind chill factor for 44 degrees, 25mph winds, is 29 degrees.

It’s the wind that will be brutal. I’m a cold weather wimp. You could spot me in the dug out if I were playing, I would be the one in full camo duck hunting gear with a space heater.

Watch out for the kid on either team who shows up in short sleeves, he will be the tough out.

writing off Hurley aleady or did he trsnsfer out?

No I have not written Hurley off. I hope he comes back, Hurley does have the pedigree of a top qb.

I guess I did not include him because the extent and nature of his injuries seem to be a big secret, and thats concerning. Last I read, Hurley was still in a rehab center, but for what, no one said. Thats a long time for a young man to be in a rehab hospital. He was unresponsive at the scene, I dont know if he is rehabbing for a brain injury or orthopedic injury or what. It’s just kind of hard to factor Hurley into the qb discussion when they have kept so secret the nature and extent of his injuries and given any time frame for his recovery.

Like everyone else on here, I imagine, I hope Hurley has a full recovery that allows him to return to practice at LSU.
Look at State’s schedule this year. They play on Sunday a lot. There is probably a reason this series started on Thursday instead of Friday, but it has nothing to do with the Lord’s day.
I am going to guess no.

LSU is killing it at wr recruiting right now for their 2026 class. No school has sent more receivers to the NFL in the last few years than LSU. It has to be quite a selling point for LSU to point to how dominant Jefferson and Chase were as NFL rookies and the monster salaries they have now.

Another impt selling point for wr recruiting is having a top qb on the roster who can get receivers the ball. I would imagine Nuss staying an extra yr helped some in the great transfer wr class we had this past year.

This is no knock on Van Buren or Johnson, either one could develop into a top qb. Either might start at a lot of programs. But as of right now, neither of the two have the pedigree of a Burrow, Daniels or Nussmeier. I do not see our 2026 qb room, as it stands now, as being much of a selling point to wr recruits.

This is where the Underwood flip hurt LSU. It’s almost certain LSU went over their qb roster with Underwood and all but promised his that he twould start in 2026, and was a Nuss sprained ankle away from starting as a freshman.

The really bad thing about the Underwood flip is that it came too late for LSU to get one of the other blue chip 2025 qb recruits to flip to LSU. It left a real hole on LSU’s qb depth chart. Thank goodness we got Van Buren, he seems at least capable and could develop. But he is not much of a selling point for wr recruits compared to all the top teams with proven qbs.

I would guess the wr commits we are getting now are being sold on how LSU gets receivers into the NFL. And of course, LSU has to be giving them NIL deals at least comparable to the packages other schools must be offering. But I doubt that having Van Buren as our heir apparent was much of a selling point. It’s almost certain that schools trying to flip Tristan Keys will use LSUs qb room after Nuss leaves against LSU.

There is one silver lining, I guess, to not being loaded in your qb room. You become a prime contender for the top qbs in the portal wanting to start right away at a bog school. Most blue chip QBs out of high school are willing to be back ups as freshman, but a lot hit the portal if they cant start as sophomores of juniors.

These kids are not looking for another qb room at another school with other blue chips they have to beat out. All things being equal with NIL money, top transfers want to go to the very top college teams where they can start right away. Arch Manning staying at Texas to play another yr behind Ewers later year is the exception, not the rule.

Blue chip qbs in the portal dont want to go transfer to schools with Mannings or Underwood’s on their roster they have to beat out. They want to go to schools with a relatively weak qb room where thye can play right away.

If LSU goes into 2026 with Van Buren and Johnson competing to start, LSU will be a prime landing spot for blue chips qbs in the portal looking to start for a national contender.

Vote the post down if you think LSUs starting qb for 2026 is on their roster now. Vote the post up if you think our next starter comes from the portal or from some qb we get in our 2026 class.

The atmosphere at the Texas field is electric. The stadium is packed because they are playing LSU, baseball royalty.

This game is so great for LSUs brand. Top recruits come to LSU to play in games like this. Our kids are scrappy.

Are u talking about my f word or his? lol. I was responding in kind to a homophobic slur. He was responding to a post from another tiger fan about the benefits of bunting.

I don’t care if people disagree or don’t like bunting. If they are gonna ban people, start with the ones who randomly attack other posters with slurs.

I try to ignore out of the blue rude posts on here. I would like to think tiger fans can be respectful of each other. But that’s not why I am responding.

I come a very family with countless cousins I like. As I suspect is the case with most everyone on here, I have family members and good friends who are gay. It’s a cruel and tough world for people growing up gay. Almost everyone from a large family has a gay relative who has been bullied and berated just for being gay.

One of my life regrets is not standing up more for some gay friends and family members who have been subject to bullying and hate. In retrospect, I think it was cowardly of me to stand by and not give them support.

So frick you for your ridiculous, hurtful to some, and totally unnecessary homophobic slur. It says so much more about you than my harmless bunt post does about me.

The many benefits of small ball

LSU baseball teams of the past have been mostly big ball teams that did not bunt often and when they did they often weren’t very good at it. Good teams can play big ball and small ball as the situation calls for. So far this season, LSU has been good at both

Fielders are most comfortable backed up to the grass and making plays that require no thought as to where they are going with the ball. Bunts often create split second decisions for first basemen, third basemen, catchers and pitchers to make. Errors happen much more often when fielders have to make decisions under pressure.

Bunting with runners on base creates even more decisions. Who is crashing from first or third? Who will cover the vacant base? When does catcher field a short bunt with a runner coming from third on a squeeze? How much less accurate is a pitcher fielding a bunt who has to spin and throw? Do you watch a good bunt and hope it rolls foul? If the second baseman is running over to cover first, it becomes a much harder throw for the pitcher. If all the infielders aren’t on the same page, sometimes you even see throws to empty bases. Throwing to a first baseman who is firmly planted on first showing you his glove as a target is a much, much easier throw for a pitcher than throwing to a second baseman covering first who is on the move and not set yet, sometimes you have to even lead them. How many times have you seen a pitcher fire the ball into right field on a spin throw after fielding a good bunt?

There is another benefit to having so many different players who can bunt, and bunt for base hits. The deeper a first or third baseman plays, the harder it is to hit by them. Thats where they will be when Jared Jones bats. But this year LSU has a handful of players comfortable bunting for hits if they see either corner fielder set up too deep. This can bring the fielders in a few yards to respect the bunt, which lessens the fielders angles and reaction time on sharply hit ground balls.

But the best advantage of bunting, if executed correctly at the right moment, is the pressure it puts on defenders whom have to make split second decisions on who fields the ball and what base to go to. Good bunting can make some good fielding college teams look like high school teams.

I wonder if we start seeing some slash hitting where we show bunt and then slash hit at the charging defender. We have some really good contact hitters that could be good at that. And that just gives the third baseman yet another decision to make. You dont want to be charging in at someone swinging away.

Of course I guess it’s like everything else in baseball. People love the bunt call that works and hate the bunt call that did not work. So far, Jay has been calling most bunts at the right time. More importantly, his players have been executing them correctly. It adds such a new dimension to LSU baseball.

Listening to Ben McDonald announce the game is like sitting in a baseball class. His baseball IQ is off the charts and he often makes some observation that would not occur to me, even with as much baseball I have watched over the years.

He seems a good dude who loves the sport, was very good at playing the sport and now is very good at announcing the sport. Some announcers make you want to turn the sound down to watch. His commentary adds to the enjoyment of watching the game.
