The map on the petition is final.

The map does not include the Mall of Louisiana, L'Auberge Casino and Siegen Marketplace, because those were annexed before the 2nd petition window.

The rest of them that waited until the 2nd petition effort or the passed vote and suddenly wanted out while StG was in litigation? Absolutely. But the stuff Kip got locked in during the 1st petition effort is still Baton Rouge.

I love the fact that Brett Furr lost this. He’s a piece of shite in my opinion and was for disenfranchising nearly 100,000 people in the parish. That guy should be ran out of town. What a total prick, him and MOP head

We moved out of St. George to Ascension when my son was in 5th grade because it seemed like it would never happen. Now he's in high school at Dutchtown. The move for us was the right choice but I'm still extremely pleased that this is finally happening.

The funny thing about all this is that the St. George movement was completely dead and done, then Broome got elected mayor president and the first thing she did was poke the bear by inexplicably start talking sh!t about St. George, which pissed off the St. George people enough that the movement got restarted and the rest is history. She has to feel like a moron today. If she keeps her mouth shut I bet the St. George movement would have stayed dead.

Very pleased to hear this news today. Although I live in the city of Baton Rouge, it was BS that these folks weren’t being permitted to incorporate. Laughable. Glad their legal rights were upheld. Will be better for EBR in the long run.

It would be interesting to know how much EBRP taxpayer money was spent trying to usurp the will of the people who voted for the creation of St. George. St. George should be reimbursed for their legal costs in fighting the unlawful denial of their legally obtained rights.

This was a classic battle of the people vs. The Swamp. The people won. The Swamp needs to pay. Unfortunately the Swamp pays with our tax dollars. It’s a real bad system
Isn’t it?

So now Baton Rouge will finally have an "authentic" suburb. Even Shreveport has Bossier.

That’s not the law. As soon as they begin circulating the petition everything is frozen. You cannot annex areas that are within the boundaries proposed. It has nothing to do with the vote.

Edit: Anything after March 2018 is prohibited from being annexed.

A new state law prohibits City Hall from annexing any more from the proposed city’s boundaries land while the petition drive, which started in March, is ongoing. LINK.

Right now it affects United Plaza, Lipseys, Turner Industries, Louisiana State Employees Retirement System, Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana and Two Sisters of Baton Rouge since they were annexed in 2020.

Most of the areas that Baton Rouge grabbed were retail. It will be interesting if the new St. George group will try to give the Mall, casino, and Seigen Place sweetheart deals to keep them in the city.

The mall, casino and seigen marketplace are nice and all but St. George is now home to most of the major industrial construction companies in the area now. Turner, MMR, Performance, Cajun, The Newtron Group, ISC, Excel. I guess Blue Cross Blue Shield of LA too.

Massive blow to Baton Rouge, but good for the people of St. George. Never gave up despite the dirty dealings of Broome and her friends. And to think all they wanted was a new school district.

My question....WHY did BR never Annex some of those areas in the first place?

Because they were collecting the tax dollars for the city parish and not really having to service them.

Because the unincorporated area (neighborhood, business) has to initiate the request for annexation, not the opposite.

I'll bet Broome is funing! She didn't want this to happen at all. And wasn't that "honor code" clown 100% against it as well.
Good for the believers, who never stopped trying!

I wouldn’t call it a suburb, it may be co cities because of population.

One example although they are further apart, Mobile/Pensacola. Shreveport could actually be 3 cities in one Shreveport/Bossier/Texarkana if you look at it from a media market standpoint. Heck maybe we ought to start calling Monroe, Monroe/West Monroe. Then you have on the larger scale Dallas/Fort Wort, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Tampa/St. Petersburg, etc.

So when do we start calling it Baton Rouge/St. George.

So similar to Birmingham?

Birmingham is what everyone calls the metro area, but Mountain Brook, Vestavia, and Hoover all have their own mayors, councils, school systems, and local taxes.

It just depends on population.

We still don’t call New Orleans/Kenner/Gretna/Westwego/Covington/Mandeville/Slidell. Metairie could be thrown in there but it is not incorporated.

I would say in order to have a major minor city name you would need a significant population base of the population of the major city population.

I have seen it posted here that the new City of St. George would be in the top 5 cities in population size in the state of Louisiana. That would put it between the size of Lafayette and Lake Charles. The city of Baton Rouge’s population is about 221k residents. The entire population of East Baton Rouge is over 450k.
