Aside from the good ol' U. S. of A., do you have a sentimental favorite that you root for in the Olympics? I've always been a big fan of the Aussies.

Anyone but China

But seriously is the US isn’t in it I go for whoever the underdog country is. Lots of good stories out there.

I don't root for other countries but some countries have a tradition in certain sports and I like seeing them around.

Not really. There are countries that I always root against though, like China.

I got really invested in the final table tennis match between China and Sweden.

China, unfortunately, prevailed in the end.

Well I fell in love with Valentina Gottardi and was rooting for the Italians to beat the Americans. So there is that...

If there's not someone competitive from the US, I think it's cool when smaller countries without many athletes win events.

I don't really root for other countries, but I don't mind seeing the Brits or Irish win stuff that we're not competitive in.

I do enjoy when it's some small country that has no business being there that pulls of a medal.

I'll root for former University of Kentucky athletes but not over American athletes.

Generally any country who hasn't gotten a medal yet, especially if the final doesn't include enough Americans to sweep.

I love seeing a small country get a medal, because you know that is HUGE for them.

SatW did a comic when Estonia won bronze in rowing back in 2016:

Does this mean that a lot of Ranters tend to root for Mexico? They don't get "no" medals, but they have 3 medals so far (although they're in the Artistic Swimming final today).

I was rooting for the young lady from St. Lucia to beat Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100 m. Not only because I think Richardson is an idiot, but St. Lucia has never won a medal and I like rooting for “the little guy”. That country will never forget her winning.

I have only three country's blood in my ancestry so I always cheer for Germany (50%)/Norway (25%)/Austria (25%). My dad was adopted so I've got a Dutch name. So the Winter Olympics are great for me but are pretty limited in Summer games. (Dutch field hockey, Norway's Ingebrigtsen, and a few German teams.)

GoldZone announcer just said "Mondo Duplantis from Sweden"....

Well achtually....

Put me in the "anyone but Mondo" camp, although he's got to be one of the largest favorites for gold in the entire Olympic games all but a foregone conclusion. just a matter if he breaks another WR
