I agree with all 3 of these. And as a result, the Republican Party would be much better off going with DeSantis and actually stabilizing their operations, before moving forward at some later point with another ideologue.

I like Vance, and think he could be a terrific president one day, but Desantis’s competency and consistency is what is needed in 2028/2032.

I'm not sure this is my choice, but it's very sound reasoning.

I like Vance because I don't think there is another politician willing to put the realities out there and flirt with the unsayable truths in the way Vance is willing to do.

But is Rubio more likely to get elected and give you 60% of that? Is it American malpractice not to elect the best policy operator of a generation who happens to give you 75% of that?

It is funny to me that he is telling us why republicans lost when we have been telling them for a while now. "its oblivious to almost everyone"... nah dude you just werent listening. The people were pretty clear about their frustrations.

This is pretty much where I'm at. It's 1000000x easier to do a post-mortem after getting annihilated than it is to take measures to prevent annihilation.

You don't get any credit for identifying your own incompetence and laziness as the reason you got destroyed.

JD already positioning himself in 2028 and he’s 100% right. This is the message republicans need to take going forward. Neocon endless wars and big business tax cuts don’t work.

What lost this is the single issues crowd.. low info voters who don’t look or care about tomorrow as long as they have today

Those things are important to the Trump base and may have resulted in lower turnout of likely Republican voters, but cost of living and the Iran War are clearly the primary issues. Anyone who things they aren’t is just kidding themself.

We're just going to keep skipping over the entire thing, yeah?

I don't blame people for not liking Vance the way I do, but this is just plugging your ears up and ignoring the obvious.

Vance told Trump that going to war with Iran would look like a repudiation of what Trump won on. That came to fruition, we took a bloodbath over it, and now Vance doesn't get credit for holding a consistent position over the entire period as everyone scrambles? What are we doing here, exactly?

I think JD was always against it but he couldn’t publicly go against the president as it isn’t his place as VP to do so

it's always going to be tough for a VP to distance himself from a failed president but this is a good first step. Hope it's not too late...Vance was promising

He’s not wrong. He’s what we thought Trump would be in his second term.

I wonder if it’s possible that Vance doesn’t finish his term as VP. I can see him distancing himself and/or Trump going ballistic over this.

The counterpoint is that I wonder if Trump blessed Vance doing this type of separation. I'm not sure that's in Trump's nature, and even if he did, I wouldn't expect Trump to hold himself to that long term.

It's probably more likely that Vance as political operator saw DeSantis making moves and felt compelled to pull the band aid off, but I think both are somewhat plausible.

Desantis is the most competent political chief executive of the last fifty years. He may be a wooden dork, but he is conservative, is not afraid to tackle difficult issues, and he gets shite done.

Which, sadly, wasn't good enough for the majority on here (and on the right) in 2024.

People on here wanted a slick talking carpetbagger instead of an actual conservative that gets shite done.

Never heard that from Vance though. We heard that from media reports and whitehouse insiders.
